We sat there silently for what seemed like hours.
As the sky began to clear, and the sun started to rise, it all seemed to go into a reverse, kind of like when you rewind a tape while it's still playing. The grey clouds rolled forward, blocking the early morning sun. The damp scent lingered in the still, cool air, signaling the rain to come down.
After a minute or two of sitting against the tree as River continued to play his guitar, intricate drops of icy water fell onto my coat sleeves. I smiled at the delicacy of each individual droplet, taking in all the glory of early morning rain.
River's music accompanied the rain quite well, making me softly smile like an idiot. The rain didn't seem to stop River's connection with his music, making me admire him more and more as each tiny droplet fell from the dull sky. I turned my head toward him to watch his fingers strum and pick the guitar mesmerizingly. It was all I could think about- the music. I got lost in it.
And I couldn't find my way out.
His music brought happiness and purity back to me, which were some things I was sure I had lost for good. It almost brought me to tears, but I stopped the tears from forming.
You're stronger than that, Hana.
River stopped strumming and took in the scent of rain slowly. I did the same, the scent filling my body, sending me to a place so unreal when I closed my eyes, and a place that disappeared once I opened them again.
"It's so peaceful," he said quietly, seeming like he'd disrupt the rain if he spoke any louder. I nodded in response, the corner of my lip slightly curling up in a smile.
Were we bonding..? I questioned myself. I hope so.
I truly do.
