Chapter 9; Hostage

"What do you mean? What is going on?" Sofie said, concerned.

"Do it before you regret it." Derik said impatiently.

"Okay I will, please don't harm her." Sofie said. Derik hung up. He went to go to his car to get Emily. In the meantime Emily remembered that Derik is very suspicious so she agreed to talk to Adam and walked inside.

"Take a seat." Adam said.

"Thanks." Emily sat down. Derik sat on the couch in front of her, "So what do you want to know?" Emily asked.

"You are not his kid?" Adam asked.

"No, he is taking care of me because my mom went on vacation, I had a babysitter but she disappeared and then my mom called me saying I had to stay with the new man who is taking care of me." She said, "It was kind of weird because she sounded scared. I didn't pay much attention to it though." She continued.

"That explains it. Can you tell me what he is doing most of the time?" Adam said. Before Emily could respond her mother called her.

"My mom is calling, is it okay if I walk out?" Emily asked.

"That is fine." Adam said. Emily walked out and answered,

"Hi mom!" Emily said.

"Emily sweetheart, where are you?" Sofie said.

"I am at someone's house, I am returning his cat and he wanted to talk so I agreed." Emily said.

"First off, you can't go to a stranger's house! Second, you need to go back home right now." Sofie said.

"Okay, I will soon." Emily said.

"No, I need you home right now!" Sofie raised her voice.

"You need to get off that vacation and go home first! You only call me when you want me to do something." Emily said.

"Please listen to me this time! You need to go home, Derik is worried!" Sofie tried convincing her. Adam went near the door to check on her,

"No mom! Between you and me I saw the man's cat being traumatized by a dog that Derik left her with!" Emily said. Adam overheard and was shocked. He went to check on Soda to see if she is okay, he noticed she did look tired. He then started then thinking about how Derik could be exactly who he thought he was. Although this time instead of telling anyone he stayed quiet and remained quiet in his thoughts. Finally, Emily hanged up and walked back inside,

"I can continue talking but we need to hurry because I need to go home soon." Emily said.

"No it is alright that's all I wanted to know, thanks for bringing Soda home." Adam said.

"Okay, It wasn't a problem, I will leave now then, goodbye." Emily said.

"Goodbye." Adam said. Emily closed the door behind her and left. She went downstairs and by the time she walked outside Derik's car came racing, he drifted and parked. Emily walked to the car and got in,

"What an entrance." Emily said, annoyed.

"Where is the cat?" Derik asked.

"I gave her back. Saw her collar, saw the dogs too. I know what you did." Emily said.

"Oh really?" Derik said.

"Yes. I can report you if it wasn't for my mom, are you her boyfriend or something?" Emily said.

"No. I am not, we will talk when we get home, I got you fast food on the way here, I wouldn't give you it but maybe you could forgive me for it." Derik said, he grabbed the bag with fast food and gave her it.
