The rest of the class was spent taking notes and avoiding Liz's eye, the bell soon rang for the end of period. I packed my things and stood up, when Alvey leaned on my shoulder looking at the schedule I left on the lab table.
" Mmh looks like we got the same three classes together and lunch" picking it up as he started muttering to himself.
A hand snatched the paper out of his hands and we both looked up. Liz was scowling at Alvey who by the way was still leaning his chin on my left shoulder.
" What are you doing?" she asks accusingly, two of her friends flanking her side behind her also staring at Alvey in distaste.
I raised an eyebrow at the interaction, keeping my face blank as I observed the situation.
" Nothing, just having a talk with my lab partner" he says innocently wrapping his arms around my left one in a makeshift hug.
" I suggest you stay away from her," Liz states with finality, grabbing my free hand to pull me towards her.
At first she struggles to even move me, but I relent and take a step in her direction unaware of Alvey's face souring. He still had his arms wrapped around my other one and I soon realized I was in a tug of war between these two.
Liz scowls even deeper "Get your dirty hands off her, you- " she hisses under her breath when I abruptly jerk my arm away from her.
" he's what?" I snarl back, glaring down at her.
I keep my eyes on hers as i stare her down, when i notice her friends get closer,
"Kids, you all better get to your next class." Mr. Harrington calls out to us from the front of the class.
My gaze snaps from Liz's to the rest of the class, seeing some lingering to watch the commotion.
When i turn back to her when i hear her finally speak,
"I uh-wha-" I scoff when I see her eyes widen as they flicker between me and Alvey.
I turn and leave the classroom as other students enter for their second period.
I stop by the stairs after distancing us far enough away from the classroom. I glanced towards Alvey who had his mouth hung open staring at me the whole time, raising an eyebrow as I scowled when I was reminded of Liz again.
I then sigh, closing my eyes when I remembered that Liz had my schedule in her hand when we left. Not that I needed it since I had already memorized my schedule already.
" hey, got your schedule right here"
I open my eyes and see that he had my schedule in his hand"
" grabbed it out of her hand when we left" he reads my schedule again,
"Thanks " I muttered under my breath, he turned towards me and gave me a genuine smile.
" no problem, no one had stood up to liz before..well except for me of course" my face sours again,
"Anyways, luckily for you we got English together" he still had his arm looped around mine and started leading us to our next class.
Eventually we parted ways for our third class of the day, with Alvey promising, well more like demanding that we'd have lunch together.
Through the four hours before my lunch break, I had been mostly observing and memorizing the school's layout. Once in a while I would just pretend to listen to the lectures as my mind filled with potential potion recipes I could conjure up at home.
Finally the bell rang for lunch, I leisurely took my time to pack my notes and such. Fully aware of Liz's narrowed eyes on my back, I huff indifferent. I hadn't really intended to make an enemy so early let alone friends. But I also wasn't going to surround myself with toxic and negative energy, at least Alvey's was warm and mellow although I was still curious about his background...oh well it ain't any of my business.
