Gravel shifted against each other and the sound of an engine in the near distance could be heard. A lone red truck was driving up the dirt road. The truck stopped as the woman driving got out, slamming the car door shut behind her.
She had long, brunette hair that reached her shoulders, chocolate brown eyes, and fair, tanned skin. And wearing blue jeans and a black v-neck shirt, along with brown cowboy boots.
She stood at the front of her truck for several minutes, observing the wreckage before her. Her gaze moved from one body to another.
She slowly started walking down the road, passing several bodies scattered across the dirt floor. A child whom She recognized as her 11-year-old nephew was strapped in the backseat of a gray van. She stared at her opened mouth with grey eyes. She screwed her eyes shut looking the other way, before continuing walking.
She passed a small car, that had its doors wide open, and a family of five were lying lifeless around the car. The mother; her cousin was holding her 7-month-old infant to her chest. The woman crouched down to inspect the baby, only to find the baby's blank white eyes staring at the car next to her. Closing her eyes in anguish and frustration, she continued down the road.
Passing by the rest of her dead relatives, she reached what she assumed must be the end of the wreckage. When she spotted a familiar truck, that had crashed into a tree. Her mother laid in the middle of the road, she quickly rushed towards her. Grabbing her shoulder and pulling her back to face her. The elderly woman took several sharp breaths as she looked up and saw her second child.
She gave her a smile, before gasping and coughing up blood.
"Mom! Mami! What happened?!"
"Mija, I need you to go! " she gasped out before coughing harshly next to her.
" no, I'm not leaving you!"
The woman gripped her daughter's shirt, pulling her closer.
" he is here, and he wants her! Go! Get her before he does."
" Mama?!.." confused, she narrowed her eyes as she searched her mother's face for answers.
Who could be after her sister's child, her niece... and why? There couldn't possibly be anyone who knew, No one knows that her niece even existed.
Who could possibly... her eyes widen,
" Mariana! Listen to me! Find her, find her, and take her with you far away. You're going to have to teach her, show her what it means to be a- "Suddenly she cuts off with coughs, trying to clear her throat, and she spits up blood onto the road.
" NO, mami?! It's not supposed to me, I can't teach her, I can't!. " her eyes water, grasping onto her dying mother.
The elderly woman weakly chuckles, patting her second child on the cheek." You can do it, Mariana, I lo-" her hand slides down hitting the floor, as her eyes slowly lose their color staring up at the sky.
Mariana's lips quiver, as she cries over her dead mother.
A shriek is heard in the distance, several birds take flight into the sky. She abruptly looks up, recognizing her niece's voice.

Esther sniffled into her arms, she opened her eyes and caught sight of a plate full of pancakes and eggs meant for her. Tears started welling up when she was reminded of her mother's severed head in the barn.
//Who did it? Who did that to Mommy and Daddy//She tried to comprehend. Her lower lips quivered as she soon ran out of tears.
When suddenly there was a knock on the door behind her. She quickly jumped forward and away from the front door. Turning around and facing the noise she saw that the door was unlocked. She waited a couple more seconds but there weren't any more knocks.
