The next day came.
It was sunny but breezy outside.
James and I sat on the curb again.
He seemed distant, and I can't blame him. I've been the worst friend. I should've stood up to those jerks.
I wanted to say something. However I didn't know what. I feel like nothing I say will make up for this.
I kept my head down.
I tried to think. Really I did. However just remembering what I did made no other thoughts come to my head.
James looked at me like HE wanted to say something. No! He can't! I'm the one who should be comforting him.
I looked away, hoping he wouldn't say anything.
James bit his lips. Shit! Now he probably thinks I'm ignoring him.
You know what now I really have to say something.
However something caught my attention.
It was just a girl walking past me but she was in the corner of my eye so naturally my eyes glided towards the movement.
A girl with wavy dark brown hair and tan skin was walking in front of me. She wore a Nirvana shirt, it's like they pulled her out of the 90's.
It was Miranda Ashton. I stared for a moment. Something was pulling me towards her. I wanted to talk with her so bad.
So I did. I stood up and my feet just moved on their own. My brain kept thinking about the prophecy but that didn't stop my mouth from saying,
"H-hi." I strutted. Fuck.Ashton just laughed. I call her Ashton because sometimes I can't even believe that I'm on the same planet as her. I can't say her name. I'm not part of her world. I'm just orbiting it. However, I really admired her. How does she know exactly what to do to make me feel better?
"Hi Perry Corris." She just smiled and it was brighter than the sun itself.
How did she know my name?
I mumbled and my face must have been tomato red.
I was gonna try and continue the conversation but it looked like Ashton was deep in thought. She kept looking away from me.
Now her face was facing the sun.
I just thought, 'she'd rather get blinded than look at me?'.
Miranda Ashton. The girl I thought was so cool was afraid of me.
For a moment I was happy. That must mean she wants to be my friend. Ashton's just scared because of the prophecy.
I smiled.
Suddenly I thought, 'Oh hey where's James? Wasn't I with him before?'.
My smiled faded as soon as I turned around. James was gone.
Well it didn't really look good that I was scared to talk with him but I was able to talk with Miranda Ashton.
If he didn't hate me before he definitely hates me now.
I just figured since Ashton doesn't want to be my friend I'll just look for James.
So I left Ashton's side and went looking for James.
Ashton finally turned her head around and saw that I left. I swear I heard her call my name. Why does she care? She doesn't want to even be part of the prophecy. Scratch that, she doesn't want to be a part of my life.
I turned a corner and suddenly I tripped. It felt like ice was on the ground but all the ice already melted. So what was it?
As I felt something escaped my pocket.
It was a circle device that glowed the colour green.
I didn't remember putting that there.
I picked it up and then stared at it for a moment.
I kept staring but remembered why I was here. James was getting away. I'm losing him!
I quickly put the thing in my pocket and bolted.
By this point I was at the edge of the recess field so I thought James wouldn't go past this point. He must have turned around and hid. Also I don't even know which way he went so maybe he went the other way.
I lifted my head to look over the fence that lined the recess field.
There was this building that looked like a factory.
And something was telling me to go inside it.
