Rose hadn't said a word since she helped Maya up into her rather burly pickup truck and was all the latter could watch. She was on a call, however, and as much as she desired hearing the thoughts most definitely plaguing her mind, she needed to focus on her discussion at hand.
"Yes, Mr. Gilford. Meeting tomorrow at noon sharp in my firm's offices."
"And I trust we will have a real meeting of minds? Put an end to this all?" She heard Gilford rifling through some papers on his side of the line and sighed at his words that felt cheap at this point.
"Yes, we will be there to finalize all legalities. See you then."
Maya hung up the phone and ran her eyes along Rose's length, gulping down what the image did to her. Rose was exquisite. She took Maya's whole being by force and instead of dangling on a steep ridge much like she had during her relationship with Andre, she felt solid. Complete. Maya knew what this had to mean and couldn't fight it any longer. In fact, she wouldn't need to once she recused herself as her lawyer at the end of their business. She would be able to pursue the woman who captivated her so ardently and as much as the thought scared her in the past, she was no longer frightened. No longer reticent to take the plunge.
She waited for Rose to park outside of her office building and took her hand once she pulled it down from the steering wheel. "Rose, can you look at me and tell me what you're thinking?"
She did look at her and the raw, uninhibited ardor in her features momentarily caught her off guard. "I can't say what I'm thinking." Rose unbuckled her seatbelt and traced her eyes very lethargically over Maya's body, making her skin sizzle with each turn of her gaze. "I can't tell you...that I want to take you home. That I want to tell you how much you mean to me. How much you've helped me. I can't tell you how much I want to pull you into my arms and kiss you forever."
Silence filled the cab of her truck aside from the heated breaths both released as if it were the hardest task undertaken. Maya reached up from her hand and gingerly stroked her fingers along her cheek, but Rose turned away from the caress. It was obvious she was trying her damndest to adhere to Maya's rules, which she'd broken herself time and time again, and she was swept away in the cocoon of care that was quickly encompassing her, heart and soul.
"I...have a family affair in India after this case is finished. It actually wrapped up just in time, if we can accomplish our goals tomorrow." As if overcome with her truest desires, Rose turned her face back into her hand and released a long winded sigh through flared nostrils. Her neck was taut like she was having an internal battle and Maya had her answer on what she must do at all costs. "When your affairs are settled, I will no longer need to represent you. I can have Sandra move in as your lawyer and we...can meet more frequently.
"Rose, I want the same things I see in your eyes." This achieved a dazzling grin and Maya cupped her other cheek with her free hand. Just this much was alright and truth be told, there was no way Maya could have kept her hands off of her any longer. "Come with me. Josephine and my uncle who is also retired are planning on joining the family there. With the weather finally warming up, the slopes will be closed, but the hot springs are open all year. There's also a monastery you could see and plenty of countryside. Will you join me for their celebration there? Please?"
Rose slowly nodded with the arch of her brows and gulped as she took one of her hands, bringing it down to her lips as she spoke. "Where would this shindig happen?"
Smiling at her gentle tones, Maya replied, "Lachung. It's a small village within Sikkim. And you needn't worry over whether or not they'd be accepting of same-sex couples. My family has the largest estate aside from the monastery and are one of the primary reasons the village is still functioning so well. My family is very supportive, they are quite liberal after all, and practice Tibetan Buddhism, though in a more secular manner. We wouldn't need to deal with any hate, so you don't ever have to worry over that."
"I don't. I doubt you would invite me if there was a threat to my life." Rose looked into her eyes and gulped loud enough for it to resound through the cab. "But I don't want to push you into this if you aren't ready."
"I also wouldn't have invited you without knowing what it means, Rose." Maya took her hand into her lap and ran her thumbs along the pad as she added, "I want this. I... I want you, Rose."
Peeking up from her hand, she found a full smile this time and bit her bottom lip with great anticipation. "Okay."
"Okay...?"
"Yeah, I'll go. I'd love to see where you were born."
Maya hugged her and wanted more, but for the sake of what little time they had left in dealing with her case, she held back the desire. She leaned away and cupped Rose's cheek, gazing into her eyes as she felt her hands on her hips. Then, the contact was gone and Rose grinned at her with a sort of unrestrained wiggle as she actively fought to take her hands off of her. Maya felt the same sensation running throughout herself and bristled with excited possibility. She could feel Rose everywhere and carried it with her as she opened the pickup's passenger door, hopping out to save her the experience of having to part with her all over again. Just in case Rose decided to help her out of the vehicle again, of course.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Rose."
"You too, legal eagle."
