Mikasa was humming some song as she walked to class. She had her headphones on and she only paid some attention to where she was going.
The campus was old, with gothic European architecture and fancy pathways to the buildings. At first glance it would seem like an expensive place to go, reserved only for those who come from disgustingly rich families. But in reality, the tuition was affordable and it was open to all.
As Mikasa walked up the steps that lead to the science building, she bumped into someone from behind. He fell upon the top of steps, landing with a dramatic thud. She stopped in her tracks as she noticed the guy laying face-down on the cold stone pavement. She paused her music and ran up the steps to help the poor guy out.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry," she said frantically as she lifted the man up to his feet.
"No, no it's alright. I shouldn't have been standing there in the first place," the guy said as he stood up. He pushed his strawberry blond hair back and turned to face Mikasa.
He gave her a slight smile and then said, "Um, so where are you heading?"
"Oh, um, Biotech. What about you?" Mikasa responded, slightly flustered upon viewing the man face to face.
"I-I'm actually heading there too. Wanna...walk there together?"
"Sure, I mean we're going to the same place."
"Yeah. I'm Jean, by the way. Jean Kirstein."
"Mikasa Ackerman, nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too."

Jean and Mikasa soon became friends. He told her how he was part of the fraternity Soiree Corss, his rather wealthy childhood, and his plans after college. Mikasa listened intently as he walked her over to a picnic table under a tree, where four other people sat around talking to each other.
"Everyone, I want you to meet Mikasa. She also takes biotech and she's a fan of rock music," Jean said. "Mikasa, this is Connie, Sasha, Ymir, and Historia." Mikasa waved at the group.
"Nice jacket, where'd you get it?" Ymir asked.
"Oh, it was actually a gift. I think it's from Harley-Davidson," Mikasa said as she took a seat next to Jean. Ymir nodded in respect as she took a strawberry from a small pink circular box. Ymir herself wore dark flared jeans and a floral tie top with equally flared sleeves.
"It's so nice to see that Jean is opening up more. How did you two meet exactly?," Historia asked. She had a bit of a prim accent, perfectly matching her personality. Mikasa then went on to tell her the whole story about her bumping into Jean.
Mikasa chatted with her new friends for the rest of her time. She learned about how Sasha loves to travel, not only to see the world but to also try the food. She learned how Connie likes to learn about computers and concerningly, the effects of war. She learned about the upcoming wedding of Historia and Ymir.
It was comforting to meet new people and find that the problems you face are something that other people face as well.
When it was time for the group to go their separate ways, Connie gathered them around for one more announcement.
"Also since it's my birthday next week, I'm planning on throwing a small get together for my friends! You guys can bring some friends but please don't bring too much. Got it?"
Everyone nodded in agreement. It seemed harmless.
They said their goodbyes and went their separate ways.
When Mikasa got to her car, she noticed Jean jogging towards her in her side-view mirror. When he caught up to her, she turned to face him and said, "Oh hey, Jean. What's up?"
"Uh, hey Mikasa. I was wondering if...you maybe wanna...go out sometime?"
Mikasa was caught off guard by the question. So much so that an obvious shade of red appeared on her face.
"Um, sure. Why not?"
"Sweet. How about this Friday?"
"I'm free."
"Nice. See you then."
