CHAPTER FIVE
"the king's ball"-𝙀𝙉𝘾𝙃𝘼𝙉𝙏𝙀𝘿 𝙁𝙊𝙍𝙀𝙎𝙏-
𝙊𝙉𝙀 𝙔𝙀𝘼𝙍 𝘼𝙂𝙊𝑻𝑯𝑬 𝑫𝑨𝒀 𝑶𝑭 𝑻𝑯𝑬 ball finally arrived. Clarissa gave the maids the day off to get ready for the event and would take on the workload by herself. Most went back home to their families, while Ella stayed behind.
Instead Ella remained in her bedroom and packed the belongings she brought with her from her old home. She hoped Clarissa wouldn't notice, but of course, she thought wrong.
Clarissa entered her bedroom unnoticed. She cleared her throat to get the young woman's attention. "And what are you packing for?" She questioned.
"It's nothing," Ella replied.
"It's something. My dear, I've lived with you for nearly half of your life," Clarissa says, "I know you better than anyone in this castle."
Ella sighed before turning to Clarissa. What the woman didn't know was that she was crying prior to her arrival. Her eyes were slightly red, but her face wasn't too puffy.
One would have to look hard enough to tell Ella was crying. She turned back to her bag, closed it, then sat down on her bed. Clarissa calmly approaches her.
"I'm going to Camelot tonight," Ella explained.
"What about the ball?"
"Everyone will be too distracted to notice I've left."
"Ella, you know that's not true."
"Is it?" Ella questioned. Since the night they spent together, Ella and Kit have only seen each other twice. And besides Clarissa, Kit was all Ella was staying for.
Clarissa sighs and walks over to Ella's bag. She opens it and begins to unpack it for her. Ella's protesting wouldn't stop her.
"Besides, you can't leave in your condition—," As soon as the words flew out of Clarissa's mouth, Ella raised a brow. Clarissa was quick to shut herself up.
"—What condition?" Ella asks.
"Nothing. Just spend one more night here, see if you really want to leave," Clarissa replied, "And if you do, I'll help you. Just make sure you write to me everyday."
Ella nodded in agreement. Clarissa finished unpacking Ella's things before saying her goodbyes and leaving the room.
