Constantine, or as I came to call it, "The Hive" for the way the souls here connected together much like bees, everyone had a role that served and maintained the kingdom, between the way people worshipped the Queen here and the honeycomb shaped buildings it was an easy association. I watched my younger self fall into line with this, and yet stumble in the path that had been predetermined for me, my mother, and her mother before me. We were homemakers, workers, and the same was expected of me. Only I caused so much trouble I came to be one of the Queens apprentices, where she could keep a closer eye on me, and yet it was what catapulted me to stray. Between my duties I had access to her private library, and there I discovered that there were tales of other cities, other realms, began to realize she did not fit into this one, or any of the identical ones she unknowingly shifted into aimlessly searching for something to content my soul. The road sang louder to me each day, and the Queen would hush me when I hummed with it, causing peers to shift away from me. But the Queen was the only other one who seemed to understand my need to find something else, and I discovered this when Irene suggested we investigate her more in the days before my desertion.
The Queen watched my younger self leave for the evening after turning down her bed, again humming the tune of the Abyss. She sighed and said to herself, "Well I suppose it's no use delaying the inevitable." I let out a chuckle at this, because there were probably only a few realities in which I was somehow not called by the road, unaware of the power I was blessed with, that we are all blessed with. The Queen astonishingly, looked to me now though, and it took only a moment to realize she was in fact aware of us, aware of her own power. I glanced at Irene, who seemed amused that I had only just realized. "I was wondering how long it would take you to come snooping when you returned, MJ." The Queen spoke in a chuckle, her tone so casual compared to how she had addressed her before. "You're well on your journey now, and I can see you've found some excellent company. It's nice to see you again, Irene." The Queen strode to us now and I had to snap my jaw shut when Irene grabbed The Queen by her corset and kissed her, "It's lovely to cross your path again, Celeste." I laughed again, "Well I take it you suggested this intentionally?" Irene blushed at me, "Well I recognized this place immediately, and Celeste saw us nearly immediately as well- and then recruited your younger self to her court, and you were taking forever to catch on so I figured I may as well clue you in. Who would've thought, right? The Universe, she loves to play." Celeste, as she insisted I call her now instead of "Your majesty" when I asked, explained she had met Irene 13 eons ago, in the war. I was floored by this, "You mean to say the war you mentioned before... Took place THIRTEEN BILLION years ago?" If I had not become aware of my own soul, shifted to other dimensions and realities, met a shapeshifting cat, etc. I would have never been able to comprehend the scope what I learned that night.
"When people say 'the beginning of time' all they really mean is a time before they can think of, because time, as we know of the future is technically infinite. So too is the past. Your friend Morfi hinted this much to you, and I am going to tell you now, Matilda what your soul already knows. You are infinite as well, we all are, and we are all connected and present in the Multiverse, Here, Forever, and Before." Celeste spoke and I felt the fabric of my soul resonate with it, felt every doubt I had been wrestling and every fear wash away into peace and resolution. "Okay," I said breathlessly when I had focused back to Here, "But what could a war 13 eons ago have been about?" Irene grimaced and Celeste's eyes turned somber, "The same thing that may soon cause another massacre of that scale. Which is probably why we are all crossing paths again." Chills went up my spine as Celeste whispered, "Power. To control Mother Universe, Time, and the Source."
