Okay okay, I know. Last chapter was an absolute waste of time. It was nonsensical and was clearly meant to use the precious time of your life to engage you in about a thousand words on NOTHING. Awww...how guilty I feel. (yes. feel the sarcasm)
Don't worry. This time I will tell you about my date. At least some of it...I think.
As mentioned before, I arrived about 10 minutes late. Arthur seemed awfully chill about it.
"Hi." Wow, Will, what linguistic prowess. I could have thought of any kind of greeting and that was what I came up with. Sad. See, at least I am also dissing myself.
"You made it." He shrugged and smiled as if relieved. I was confused. Was he relieved or chill about my appearance?
"Yea, sorry, I got lost in a shop." I held up the shopping bag as if to prove that I wasn't lying.
"Oh nice, did you find something good?" he asked and we slowly walked towards the ticket counters.
"Yeah. Some shoes."
I hadn't been happy about this date but now I really wasn't feeling it. I was more in a "let me bury myself in my bed and read a good book" mood.
"That's cool." We queued up and looked around awkwardly for a moment. I watched a few couples who clearly didn't like each other leave for the movie halls. Yes, I feel you. I also don't wanna be here.
While watching the silent movie trailers which were displayed in the middle of the entry hall of the cinema, I totally lost track of why I was even there and it took me a good minute before I realized that my dear friend Alex was even talking to me.
"...prefer that."
"What?" I turned to him and saw him pointing at the ticket screen in front of us. Oh...time to choose a movie...
"I don't care. No preferences." My time to shrug.
For a moment I saw something appear in his eyes which looked an awful lot like hurt feelings but soon he was back to his newly found relaxed state of "I don't care".
I know there wasn't much happening but I swear, he was different. Something was clearly up. It was as if you usually had a golden retriever and suddenly he is an old and relaxed sloth. Even if you don't talk a lot, you will notice a change in energy.
The problem was that I didn't get why he was like this. What had I done? Or more like, what had he done? If he found it reasonable to ask me out on a date before, then what had happened that he was suddenly so ...not happy about it?
"Let's watch a comedy then." He finally decided and clicked on a heist movie. At least I would have some fun this evening. I liked comedies. Not the cheap sex joke kind but the actually comedic timing kind. Those I liked.
"Some popcorn?" he asked.
"As long as there is nothing sweet on them, sure."
"You don't like sweet popcorn?"
"It's not that I don't like it. I despise it," I corrected. I really did despise it. Sweet popcorn was awful and its smell reminded me of those people who were vaping. Such a horrible sweet smell that just smelled like melted sugar.
"Then salty popcorn it is," he concluded and a small smile finally arrived on his lips. Oh, so he wasn't totally against this date all of a sudden.
You might remember I am not the most patient and not the most polite person. Therefore, one pack of popcorn and a Sprite in hand later, I turned to my company and straight up asked.
"What is up with you today? I thought you wanted to go on this date with me? Why are you suddenly so 'not into it'?"
Okay, before I continue, I did not ask him this because I was angry in any way. I expected this date to be awful and having it be awful at least enabled me to complain to Vic later and score some plus points in regards to empathy. And maybe she actually gifted me one of her brother's lego sets (don't judge me - he had the really cool and ginormous ones). And no, she never asked for permission. They just got "lost in the mail". Vic would definitely not win the best sibling award anytime soon.
