Freya walked down the streets of New Orleans staring at the bright, beautiful streetlights that illuminated the city streets. Her younger siblings dwelled somewhere in the city. She just had to find out exactly where they were. After that, she'd surveil her siblings and see what kind of people they really were. She needed to know how much of their bad reputations were truly deserved.
"Pardon me, Madam, but may we have a word?" a male voice asked her. Freya tore her gaze away from the lights and she saw a pair of men walking over to her. The one who addressed her was a tall man with blue eyes wearing grey slacks, a grey overcoat over a white dress shirt, a dark grey vest, red tie, and he had a black bowler hat atop his blond head. The man beside him was an even taller man with dark brown eyes who was wearing black slacks, a black overcoat over a white dress shirt, a black vest, a black diamond patterned tie, and he had a black bowler hat atop his brunet head.
"Can I help you?" Freya asked in a reserved, cautious manner.
"I hope so, darling," the brunet man replied. He smiled charmingly at her, laid a hand over his heart, and said, "I'm Kol Mikaelson and I am in dire need of a witch."
"...Is that so?" Freya replied, coolly. But inwardly she was shaken because she had not expected one of her siblings to suddenly approach her.
"My friend, Angus," Kol said, gesturing to the blond man next to him, "He informed me that you are a very powerful witch who would be willing to help me. Is that correct?"
Freya furrowed her brows and she stared at Angus and wondered why he was claiming to know her. She assumed he was a fellow witch and that he could sense her magic but it seemed too convenient that her brother and his witch friend would approach her like this. She had only just arrived in the city. Who was Angus? With Kol's attention on her, he did not see Angus mouth the words, 'Freya, play along.' Freya's eyes widened and Angus had the gall to wink at her. She smoothed out her expression to hide away any hints of her alarm and she turned her attention back to Kol and asked, "What do you need?"
"For now, all I need is for you to attend my family's Christmas party with me tonight," he informed her, "I'll give you further details later."
"Alright," she agreed, immediately despite her misgivings about Angus. She wasn't in the habit of agreeing to such vague requests but this would give her a chance to meet the rest of her siblings and that's all she really cared about.
"Great!" Kol beamed, clapping his hands together, "Will you be able to procure a dress for the evening or do you require my assistance?"
"That is not necessary," she stated, shaking her head. Kol nodded in understanding and he gave her one last smile before he began to walk away from her. She watched him until he vanished around the corner and he was completely out of her sight. She had just met her brother. She swallowed thickly and wished that she had said more to him. But she didn't allow herself to dwell on her regrets. She stared at Angus who had remained behind. He smiled in a non-threatening manner and gestured to a nearby bench for them to sit. He said, "I believe we should talk, Freya, daughter of Mikael."
"Yes, we should," she agreed, seriously. She lowered herself onto the bench and crossed her hands over her lap and she looked at him with a curious tilt of her head. Angus sat beside her and he said, "Well, madam, I guess I should begin by assuring you that Kol does not know you're his sister. I believe that you should be the one to tell him. All he knows is that you are a powerful witch that I know who has recently arrived in the city. Since Kol and I have been working together for these last few months, he trusts me to an extent."
"Do you mean him harm?" Freya asked in a low tone with a narrowed gaze.
"No," Angus denied, shaking his head, "I like Kol well enough. He's taught me a branch of magic called Kemiya which allowed me to alter the chemistry of four objects of my choosing by using an aventurine gem as a conduit. One of these dark objects is a compact mirror that allows someone a chance to view alternate versions of one's past and the future by offering the object your blood. I call it a Glimpse of Eternity." He reached into his inner coat pocket on his left side and pulled out a small brass compact mirror with a hand-carved ivory owl design on the cover and he offered it to her.
Freya warily eyed it; she could sense the dark magic emitting from the object. She grabbed the compact mirror, flipping it open and she looked through it. She saw her reflection and nothing else. She raised an eyebrow at the man, not impressed. He laughed lightly and told her that she had to smear some of her blood on the cover of the compact, staining the ivory owl red. All she had to do was state what kind of version of herself she wanted to see in a willful tone and she would see it. Freya decided to play along and she did as he instructed, saying, "You will show me a version of myself where I'm happy with my family during Christmas." Multiple versions of herself flashed across the mirror and she instinctively knew the names and relations of all the people who appeared.
She saw a version of herself cuddling with her wife, Keelin on a couch with their son, Nik, in her arms in front of a Christmas tree. Kol and Finn were drunk, arms slung over each other as they sang out-of-tune Christmas carols. Kol's wife, Davina, was egging them on from the sidelines. Elijah was sipping a warm mug of coffee from a reclining chair, shaking his head at their antics. Klaus was sitting by the Christmas tree helping his daughter, Hope open presents alongside his child's mother, Hayley, and her husband, Jackson with Rebekah and her husband, Marcel recording it all.
She saw a different version of herself buddled up in layers beside her wife, Keelin standing out in the snow by a tall pine tree with Finn and his wife, Aina under the full moon. The shout of their names showed Dorothy, Elijah's wife waving at them with her free hand while the other was tucked in the crook of Elijah's arm as they walked toward them. An adult Henrik raced passed them with his wife, Mabel clinging to his back, laughing as he carried her toward them all. Klaus in his wolf form sprinted around them with his loyal pack of werewolves and hybrids.
She saw an older version of herself as she lay on her deathbed surrounded by flickering candle lights with her fully grown and healthy son with Mathias, Magnus, sitting by her side as they said tearful farewells and she passed in peace.
She saw a younger version of herself as she grinned at Father as she sat next to him at the dinner table as it snow rained down on the village outside with Mother seated across from her, Finn at her right, Elijah next to him, Niklaus next to Elijah, Kol across from Niklaus, Rebekah across from Finn, and Henrik next to Mother. They ate a hefty feast filled with laughter and joyful energy.
She snapped the compact shut, overwhelmed by the last scene which had been her dream for so long. One she had long since given up on since she had grown. A hand gently pried the compact from her hands. She looked up at Angus and he said, "That was just four versions of yourself who led happy lives with their families, imagine what your future could hold. If you do as I say I can assure you that you will have your own happy future."
"Who are you?" she asked, mystified.
"Angus Ogden, a seer," he winked at her, "I want to make a blood oath with you. Do you agree?"
"This is just too good to be true," Freya whispered, distrustfully. Angus snapped his fingers, startling her and he said, "If that's how you feel allow me to elaborate!" He shoved a snow globe with a brass base in her hands before she could react and she was sucked into the globe, reappearing in the fake snow-covered village within the globe. She stared at the plastic smiling snowman and the plastic-painted houses in disbelief. Angus appeared beside her in a woosh of air and he grabbed her hand and said, "Come let us have a meeting of souls, dear Freya!"
He climbed inside a small, glassless window and dragged her with him. She was unable to properly process what was happening, it all felt like a dream. She was led to a table filled with parchments. He offered her one and he said, "Here is a rough outline for my plans for a perfect future that would benefit both of our families. Read it and if you love it, sign on the dotted line!"
Freya would sign the parchment, sealing her and her family's fate. She'd play her part, acting as her brother's date at the Christmas ball. She would not reveal her identity to any of her siblings. Leaving them to feud as she left the party and headed to Fauline Dowager's cottage on Angus's arm with an aventurine crystal hidden in her bosom and an innocuous porcelain doll in her arms. Angus would part ways with her outside, reminding her of their oath. With hope in her heart, she would enter the cottage and go to a room upstairs. She would place the doll in a rocking chair in the corner of the room. Afterward, she would lock herself away in a glass coffin with the crystal held over her heart. She'd fall into her hundred-year slumber, waiting for the next phase of the plan for a better future for them all.
