Chapter 2: Meeting the Squad Captains

No One POV

Where we last left off, Zero had just managed to escape the Purgatory Kingdom and Arrow with the stone he stole from the temple. Now arriving in the Clover Kingdom, home of the Magic Knights, he entered the city and immediately headed towards his small hideout. Once he arrived, he hung up his sword, took off his boots and placed the stone on a table that had a map on top of it. He took a pencil and marked off Purgatory from it.

Zero: I've got the Blaze Stone from Purgatory, that leaves the Sylph Stone hidden in the Valley of Storms and the Absolute Stone hidden somewhere in the Spade Kingdom. But since those Midnight Sun weirdos are looking for them too, it could be possible that they already have one. Most importantly, the Magic Knights are probably looking for them as well. I'll choose the better option and go after the Sylph Stone next since I'm not interested in going to an entirely different kingdom yet and this one is closer to here. For now though, I'd better get some rest and treat my injuries from Arrow.

Zero then walked over to a shelf that was hanging up before grabbing some herbs, a grinder and some water. Placing the herbs in a small bowl, he poured some water into it before grinding it all together into a mixture. Once the mixture was done, he drank the bitter concoction before laying down on his small mattress, and eventually letting sleep overtake him. Meanwhile, the Magic Knights had received word of a battle that took place in Purgatory. This was news to all because Purgatory was known as one of the most dangerous places for a human to explore due to the toxic air, extreme temperatures and the dangerous monsters that lived there. You'd have to be incredibly skilled in order to just travel around let alone have a massive battle there. Inside of the Magic Knights Headquarters, we see the current Wizard King, Julius and the Captains of the Clover Kingdom Magic Knights all huddled together in a room.

???: *shocked expression* A battle fought in Purgatory?! That should be impossible!

Julius: Unfortunately Captain Nozel, it is the truth.

???: Do we have any idea who were the mages? If they are truly that powerful, we need to identify them as soon as possible.

???: *Nods head* I agree with Charlotte. If there are runts that strong out there, we need to keep tabs on them in case they become a threat.

Charlotte: *blushing* YAMI AGREES WITH ME?!

Julius: Unfortunately, we were only able to identify one person. She is a member of the Eye of The Midnight Sun, known as Arrow. She uses Fire Magic to create a bow and shoots arrows at her opponent.

???: How interesting...being able to shape her flames is definitely something that must be trained before it can be used in combat.

Yami: *smirks* We get it Fuegoleon, she's good with flames. But, what about the other person? Do we have any leads on who they might be?

Julius: Unfortunately, we don't. However, we do have a lead...That person is currently here in the city. We detected a magic portal being opened up a few moments after the battle. Whoever was fighting Arrow in Purgatory is currently here in the city. Which is why I want you all to patrol the city and keep an eye out for anyone suspicious.

Captains: Yes sir!

*A few hours later*

Zero had finally woken up after a few hours, his body now healed from his previous battle. Getting up, he grabbed his sword and put it in its sheathe on his waist, then grabbed a pouch that had a little bit of money in it and left his hideout. Heading into the city, he looked around until he came across a small tavern where he could get something to eat. As he walked in though, Zero immediately sensed that four people with amazing magic power were inside. Taking a glance around, he saw four squad captains all sitting at a table eating and drinking.

Zero: Captain of the Black Bulls, Yami Sukehiro. Captain of the Blue Rose, Charlotte Roselei. Captain of the Crimson Lions, Fuegoleon Vermillion. And finally, Captain of the Golden Dawn, William Vangeance....just my fucking luck. Good thing I'm suppressing my magical power, otherwise I'd be in trouble.

Zero walked up to the counter and took a seat. He placed his order and waited for his food while eavesdropping on the Captain's conversation. He was able to figure out that they were searching for him, but they didn't know who exactly he was. That was good for him since they had no idea who he was. After a few minutes, Zero's food arrived.

Yami: So, how do we go about finding this guy? It's already a pain in the ass when you consider how many people live in the city.

Charlotte: As the Wizard King stated, we need to keep an eye out for anyone who appears suspicious to us.

William: Well, coming up with a plan wouldn't be the worst idea. Nozel and the other Captain's decided to look on their own.

Fuegoleon: *Glances at Zero* In any case, we need to make sure that we are wary of anyone. *Motions the others to notice Zero* For all we know, they could be right under our noses.

Zero: *eyes widen* Shit, he's already onto me. I can't make any sudden movements otherwise I'll expose myself. 

The Captain's get up and approach the young man. He notices them approaching but doesn't do anything.

Charlotte: Excuse me young man. *Zero looks at them* We can't help but notice that you're here all alone. Is everything alright?

Zero: Everything's fine. Just getting a meal.

Yami: What's your name kid? I don't think I've ever seen you around the kingdom before.

Zero: My name is Zero. Did I do something wrong?

William: Not at all...unless you want to tell us why you were eavesdropping on our conversation?

Zero: Well, you guys are the only other people in here aside from me and the tavern owner. So there's not a lot of things to do aside from eat and listen to other's conversations.

Yami: Damn, kid's smart. He knows that we're onto him and he's playing it off smoothly.

Fuegoleon: In any case, do you happen to have seen any suspicious people lately?

Zero: Can't say that I have. To be honest, I don't care about what other people have going on. I've always been on my own and that's the way it'll be.

Charlotte: Alone? Do you not have any family or friends.

Zero: *shakes his head* My parents died shortly after I was born and the caretaker who raised me in their place was killed when I was three years old. If you're wondering how old I am, I'm eighteen.

William: So, you've lived and survived on your own for fifteen years?

Zero: Yeah. *Gets up* If you don't mind though, I'd like to go home. It's late and I'm tired.

Fuegoleon: Of course. Thank you for your time young man.

Zero then starts to leave. As he's leaving, he senses an incoming attack from behind that he swiftly dodged. He looked back at the Captains only to see them with their Grimoires ready to battle.

Yami: Not bad dodging my attack kid. But now, we've confirmed that you're the one we're looking for.

Charlotte: I kindly ask that you come with us. We have some questions for you regarding your fight with Arrow in Purgatory.

Fuegoleon: You're outnumbered and outmatched here. Surrender is the best option for you.

Zero: *Unsheathes his sword* Sorry, you may be Captains....but I've never ran from a battle. *Glares* And I won't start now.
