The heavy rainfall beat the ground around us, like the bitter tears of the Hydro Dragon.
Yae Miko and I reached the coral-filled mountains of Watatsumi Island.
General Gorou was ready and waiting for us with a few of his subordinates, a bouquet of Sea-dyed Blossom flowers in his hand.

"Here is your betrothed, darling," Yae Miko said to the Shiba Inu-featured young man. He tensed, blushing.

I was a Kitsune of ancient Inazuma with several elemental powers. I held a false Electro Vision to make it look like I was a normal citizen and I stayed in human form as a disguise. Well, mostly.

I smiled at the general as I tried to ignore the rainfall; my ears twitching as his did. He bowed his head, a light blushing dusting his cheeks. I'd been set up as his date to see what would happen.

"It's lovely to meet you at last. I hope this trial turns out well for the both of us." He extended the bouquet to me.

"How lovely! Thank you, General -- I hope so, too." I handed him my gift: a Perpetual Heart I won from fighting a mechanical opponent. He thanked me.

"I trust you to take good care of her," my distant relative said to him, her sakura ears perking.

Lightning slashed a nearby cliff and Gorou didn't flinch.

Yae placed her hand on my shoulder from her imposing height. "Do take care, darling."
She looked down at the general, and put on a playful voice. "Ah, I also see you've groomed your tail for the occasion."

"Guuji Yae!" His ears folded back and his tail stood erect behind him.

"Do not tease him, Yae," I said.
I used my powers to deflect the heavy rainfall from touching me while I used the power of Anemo to dry myself. "I can tell all will be well."

"Hm." She smiled, preparing to leave. "And hide those tails; gossip spreads quickly."

As I moved forward to follow the general farther inland, his teal eyes widened when he saw my tails.

"Yes, I have nine tails," I said upon his look.

He cleared his throat. "Miss Kitsune, forgive me for staring."

I shook my head dismissively. "It is natural for someone to stare at something that is unusual to them, General Gorou."

"D-didn't Lady Yae tell you to hide your tails, Miss Kitsune?"

I smiled. "We should be all right for now, don't you think? After all... you promised to look after me," I looked at him with innocence in my eyes.

"Y-yes, of course."

As we walked toward the Sangonomiya Shrine, Gorou's tail brushed against one of mine and he let out a shuddered gasp. "Miss Kitsune, I–"
I chuckled and the general put his face in his hands. He whined softly.

His ears and tail drooped and I brought my hand delicately to rest under his chin.

"I understand, General. But do not take Yae seriously when she makes you uncomfortable. I will have a word with her."

"Ah, that's not necessary, but thank you -- I should learn to deal with my own problems."

After meeting with Sangonomiya Kokomi and a somewhat pleasant feast with she, Gorou, and a few of their subordinates, I was shown to my temporary stay: a room decorated with corals and painted delicate hues of blue and pink. The bed was made of a large scallop shell, enveloping a comfortable mattress. "This is the guest bedroom, where you'll be staying," Gorou said to me. "If I am not around and you need me, call on a passing soldier; I will come immediately to fulfil your request." He bowed his head.
