Max's P.O.V
I sit on my bed confused. The things Karin told Mitch doesn't add up to what's in the Countess's letter and I can't ask Kalia for the truth because she doesn't want to tell me much about her, let alone if it's bad memories she might've been suppressing. There's a knock on my door and Collin walks in followed by Courtney and to my surprise Kalia. I instantly rise from my seat and toss the letter on the bed behind me.
"Kalia what are you doing here?" I ask sweetly.
"Found her and her friend out in the woods just inside the castle grounds," Collin says. "I assumed you'd want to see your mate while I get to know my own mate." I see Collin smile warmly at Courtney and I manage to piece two and two together.
"Well I'm sure you both have a lot to talk about so you may leave," I say and watch as my best friend and Courtney leave the room, Kalia tries to leave as well but I grab her. "You're not going anywhere my love, you and I have some more things to clear up."
"What do you want? Karin already gave you everything she knows," Kalia cries, she's getting emotional like when we first met.
"Hey hey it's okay, I'm not mad baby. I promise, I'm sorry I scared you just please let's talk about this," I keep my voice gentle and pull her close. "I just want to talk about the letter I received from your cousin, she said some things that don't match what Karin told Mitch."
"What letter?" Kalia asks, slowly beginning to relax again. I take the letter off the bed and hand it to her. She reads it once, re-reads it, and then hands it right back to me.
"Well?" I speak calmly. Kalia sighs and looks to the ground.
"Everything Karin told you is true, except for what happened to my senses with the mate pull. I suppressed the memories of what happened with the wolfsbane leaves but I didn't realize how badly the wolfsbane affected me until I lost all my senses for good," Kalia explains.
"No one should have to go through what you have and for that I'm truly sorry," I say softly. Kalia shakes her head.
"I don't need your sympathy," She growls.
"Why won't you let me love you? Why won't you trust that the moon goddess paired us together?" I ask frustratedly.
"What's the point in believing in someone when they pair you with people who only break your heart?" She makes a valid point but I need her to see the other side of things so I go to my closet and open the door, revealing a half empty closet with a single pair of golden shoes on the empty side.
"Are those mine?" Kalia asks. I take the shoes down and just like in Cinderella I place them on her feet. They're a perfect fit.
