Changbin hadn't shown up at school for several days, nor had he replied to any messages from Jisung. There was no contact with him. That's why the boy wanted to extract information from Chan about what had happened between them. He hoped that maybe this way he would be able to better understand the older one's behavior, but the chairman effectively avoided Han. Jisung found himself in a hopeless situation. He felt that at this moment only one person would be able to help him.
Taking a deep breath and adjusting the bouquet of flowers in his hand, he crossed the threshold of the hospital.
-Oh, Mr. Han, welcome- smiled Doctor Kang at him.
-Good morning- he forced himself to smile artificially. Honestly, Jisung hated that man.
-I have great news for you; we can clearly see progress, so soon...
And there was the reason for his hatred, both for him and for the other doctors. They always said the same thing: "it's getting better," "we see improvement," "now it will surely be fine."
Eight years of hearing the same thing over and over again, and not once... it wasn't true. It only got worse.
"Don't think about it,"
He thought when he felt his eyes starting to sting.
-I have to go now, goodbye- he said, leaving quickly. Not even waiting for the doctor's response.
His legs carried him, stopping only when he was at the right room. Once again that day, he took a deep breath and slowly entered.
His gaze immediately went to the person lying on the hospital bed.
-Hey mom- he said softly, sitting on the stool next to the bed.
-How are you feeling?
No reaction.
-Well, of course, you won't answer me anyway.
He continued speaking, fixing the stray hair that fell over his mother's eyes.
-I'm sorry it took me so long to visit; you know, school and all
Jisung didn't speak for a long time, trying to figure out in his head why he had really come here.
-Mom...
...
-Do you remember Changbin? I told you a lot about him
...
-I mentioned him when I talked about those mysterious notes. You won't believe it, but we managed to find out who was writing them. It turned out to be our school chairman, Chan. I think I told you something about him too
He smiled at her, then immediately became sad.
-I thought when we discovered this, it would be more joyful news, but now everything has become complicated...
...
-Changbin suddenly disappeared, Chan is avoiding me...
With each word, it became harder for the boy to speak.
-Mom, I don't know what to do
Han lowered his gaze, hiding his face in his hands.
-Why does this matter so much to me? What's happening to me, mom?
Again, there was silence for a long time, as if Jisung hoped that the woman would wake up and answer his questions, which were troubling him so much.
-Just a few weeks ago, I would have been happy about this. It would have been like always...
Now the boy looked at the woman again, taking her hand in his.
-That used to be enough for me, so why am I so scared now...
...
-Because I'm afraid of losing them
...
-I don't understand it. Changbin, although I got to know him better, so that's one thing, but Chan, I don't know him at all
"No..."
He knew it wasn't true, just like with Changbin, he got to know Chan solely by looking at his texts. He might not know when he was born, what his favorite color was, or what his blood type was...
But he knew something much more valuable; he knew his deepest thoughts and feelings. Music has always had this extraordinary power to connect people.
And although Jisung has had contact with it practically since birth, he only recently learned about this power, thanks to Changbin and now Chan.
Jisung smiled gently at these thoughts.
After a few minutes, he started speaking again.
-You know, mom... ever since I realized that I don't belong anywhere in this world, that living out of suitcases means I shouldn't get attached to anything or anyone, to not cry when I have to leave it behind...
...
-That thought comforted me, convinced me that being alone is just meant for me, that's how it should be, and that's it. I accepted it, but what if...
At this moment, Jisung gently squeezed his mother's hand.
-What if by thinking like this, I was losing more than I had to lose?
Now all the moments they shared together with Changbin ran through Han's mind.
He smiled slightly when he remembered Changbin's voice and his laughter. To think that all these things were carefully observed by Chan. Jisung laughed softly when he imagined it.
-I would like Chan to laugh with us in the next memories. I want the three of us to go to the café, to pass on our story together, to make it our music...
...
-I don't want to lose such precious memories anymore, mom.
The blue-haired boy now held both of the woman's hands and looked at her.
-So please wake up so we can experience them together...
At this moment, Jisung looked at the flowers he brought today.
Blue irises - a symbol of hope and faith.
He wanted so much... he wanted to have hope again.
To believe that it will get better.
-Please get well
