Fandom: BBC Sherlock
Pairing/theme: Parent!Lock/John!Lock
Genre: funny, cute, fluff
Summary: How hard can it be to put 3 year old Hamish Watson-Holmes to bed? Well Sherlock and John are about to find out....
Disclaimer: All the Sherlock characters don't belong to me and I'm just writing this for fun!
Notes: I'm not going into detail about how Hamish is Sherlock and John's son so just use your imagination! :D

"Sherlock!"
The consulting detective didn't stir at the sound of John yelling his name; he was concentrating in his current experiment which consisted of burning frozen toenails that were dipped in honey.
"Sherlock, where did you put Hamish's pyjamas?" John yelled again from the bathroom upstairs.
"Hmm?" Sherlock replied, his gaze still fixed intently on his experiment.
"Sherlock, I said....oh god, HAMISH!" John cried from upstairs.
There sound of splashing and laughter drifted from the bathroom upstairs where John was currently giving 3 year old Hamish Watson-Holmes a bath. Then the sound of small footsteps pattering down the stairs of 221B Baker Street were heard and the next second, a small boy with curly, blonde hair bounded into the room. He had John's hair colour but Sherlock's curls and cheek bones, which were very striking and cute on the little boy, who currently had a grin of delight etched over his whole face. Hamish wasn't wearing any clothes and was still wet from his bath, his bubble bath encrusted curls sticking slightly to his scalp; from the water; clearly he had done a runner while John was preoccupied with something else.

Catching sight of Sherlock, Hamish toddled over to the consulting detective and hugged his legs from under the table. Turning his attention to his son and away from his current experiment, Sherlock smiled and lifted Hamish up into his lap after wrapping the child in his favourite blue coat to keep him warm.

"Dada!" Hamish squealed happily as Sherlock planted a kiss onto Hamish's tiny forehead.
"Hello Hamish" Sherlock said fondly as he observed the grinning child.
Hamish glanced down at the contents of Sherlock's desk and a frown appeared on his forehead.
"Ex..experments?" he asked curiously. (Hamish was still learning to talk but his vocabulary had been vastly improving recently.)

Sherlock grinned.
"Yes that's right Hamish, experiments" he said softly as Hamish stared intently at the toenails.
"What?" Hamish asked, pointing to the honey and back to the toenails.
"See this Hamish, it's honey. You have honey on your toast for breakfast in the morning don't you?" Sherlock said to Hamish as the child shuffled around on the detective's lap.
"Yummy!" Hamish cried enthusiastically.

Sherlock smiled again fondly at his son before continuing.
"And these are frozen toenails" he said, pointing to the toenails which Hamish suddenly became fascinated with.
"Toe...toenail?" Hamish asked incredulously, his blue eyes round as he continued to stare at Sherlock's experiment.
"Yep, toenails" Sherlock said before tickling Hamish's feet and pinching the little boy's pink toes softly. Hamish squealed and giggled, hugging his Dada tightly around the chest.

Sherlock then became aware of some thudding coming from upstairs.
"What happened upstairs Hamish?" he asked his and
Hamish grinned and giggled.
"Daddy leave water on and bubbles BOOM!" he explained excitedly, waving his tiny arms around for effect.
Sherlock nodded; from what he could gather, John had turned his back for a minute, forgetting to turn the water taps off, and Hamish had squirted his bubble bath foam everywhere.
"Come on Hamish, let's get you dressed" Sherlock insisted, picking Hamish up.
Hamish began to struggle slightly.
"No, don't like" he said unhappily; Hamish wasn't fond of his pyjamas at that moment and would rather wear his Dada's snuggly coat than his boring sleeping clothes.
"Hamish, if you get changed into your pyjamas, Daddy and Dada might read you a bedtime story" Sherlock said quickly, knowing how much Hamish loved his bedtime stories.
