It all started last Autumn when Uncle Bert offered me the internship.
Uncle Bert and his partner Bob Rafelson had been inspired by the Beatles' 'A Hard Days Night'.
They wanted to create a new television series about four young lads trying to become successful in the music business.
They had auditioned boys between the ages of 18 - 21 from all over America, but had now decided on the remaining four to appear on their new show, "The Monkees."Uncle thought having me tag along would be a brilliant opportunity for me to learn the ropes of show biz, as he was well aware that I hoped of making it in the business some day.
So when he offered to fly me out to California last October to help out with the show, how could I refuse?! Any day in sunny California would beat the dismal rain of England. And so now here I was, my first day on a Hollywood set.
I'd been to California before, but Uncle had never permitted me to go on one of his sets before; he took pride in keeping projects confidential whilst in the making.
Though I was playing nothing but a minor role as an intern for the show, it was still non the less surreal!"Fran? Could you tell the boys they're needed on set?!"
"Sure thing!" I cheered, though slightly nauseated as I'd never actually met these boys before.
From what I'd heard they weren't much older than myself, which was slightly reassuring.Picking up a small microphone and clipboard, almost shaking with excitement, I read out the names of the four young boys as sedately possible.
"Would Michael Nesmith, Peter Torkleson, David Jones, and Michael Dolenz make their way to stage 3 please, thank you."
"Torkleson" I sniggered. What an interesting name..

The longer waited, for the boys arrival, the more anxious I became.
If I wasn't chewing my pencil, I'd be twirling locks of my strawberry blonde hair around my finger aggressively, to a point where I would unintentionally begin tugging out my own hair!
I don't know what caused me to become so anxious. They were only your average American lads! Nothing to be afraid of! Right?
Then again, since when had I ever had much luck with boys?"You just need to get through this without making an idiot of yourself." I muttered to myself.
Unfortunately, making a complete and utter fool of myself in front of people was a terrible habit of mine.
***
It was what felt like hours, yet was barley 5 minutes, of glancing back and forth from the clock to the door, before I heard the footsteps of four men gradually inclining closer.
As the door then began to open, up I shot, straight from my seat.
I brushed down my skirt and began fixing my hair one last time before they entered. You know what they say,
'You only make one first impression.'
