It's a twenty minute wait before Molly's name is called and twenty more minutes in the exam room.
Molly's been quiet since we got here, she's been on her phone. When I talk to her, she answers my questions, but only with a 'yes' or a 'no,' whether it pertains to what I'm asking or not. "What are you doing?" I ask.
"I'm texting." She says finally, without looking up.
"Who are you texting?" I ask. "You don't text."
"I text." She laughs. "Sometimes."
"Who are you texting?" I ask again.
"I'm texting Liam." She says.
"Who's Liam?"
"Liam Payne."
"Oh. Liam."
"They want to visit."
"Do they always hang out with just each other?" I ask.
"I don't know. Him and Naill don't have anything to do tonight. The others are going out, I guess, but they didn't want to. I invited them over."
"Are we having a party?" I ask.
"We can. We can invite others over too. Unless you don't want to. "
"No, that sounds fun. Text Cody and if you want anyone else."
"You have to invite Jason!" She says, excitedly.
"Why? Oh, wait, is it because of Cody?"
"Yes, because of Cody! When was the last time that Jason was in a relationship?"
"I dont know. I don't think I've ever seen him in a relationship. Just random hook-ups, I guess."
There's a light knock at the door before it opens. Doctor Maggie walks in. "Sorry about the wait, guys." She says, pulling up a chair. "How are you feeling, Molly?"
"Pretty good." She says.
Maggie turns to me. "How is she, Dad?"
I look at Molly. She's waiting expectantly for my answer as well. "I think she's a little emotional, but she seems to be feeling fine physically."
Maggie laughs a little. "Emotional is normal. No more morning sickness?"
"Not since before our honeymoon," Molly says. "Thankfully."
"That's good! Just so you know, the babies are going to start growing a lot. You'll feel like you've doubled in size. At this point, you haven't gained much weight, so when I tell you to start eating more, don't freak out. But you need to start eating more. You and your babies have to get all of the nutrients that you and them need. You should be eating about four or five hundred more calories a day for the twins. But that's not an excuse to eat whatever you want, you should still be eating healthy and getting your exercise."
"What kind of exercise?" I ask.
She looks from me to Molly, speaking to both of us. "Not strenuous workouts or anything like that. Walks are good. No heavy lifting, either." She says. Molly nods her head and keeps listening. "Are you guys read to see these babies?" She asks.
"More than ready." Molly says.
"Good. Go on and lie down and lift your shirt up." Maggie says, moving the ultrasound machine closer to us. "Were you guys wanting to see the sexes or are you going to wait?"
"Definitely wanting to know." Molly says. I nod so she knows I agree.
"Alright." She says, squirting some of that blue gel onto her belly.
