Perhta – [PEHR-khtuh]
Goddess in alpine paganism and figure in folklore.
   Her epithet Bright Mother in this story is derived from the possible etymology of her name, meaning "the bright/shining one". The veils worn in the convent are inspired by traditions concerning Perhta and another possible (however, less likely) etymology that traces her name back to words for "hidden"
