Vegas put the address mentioned in the card in his car's navigation system, setting it as the destination. Vegas was there within 15 minutes led by a not-so-wide road running parallel to a river, but the facility was quite big, a decent building surrounded by greenery.
Vegas checked himself before getting out of his car and made himself presentable, he looked pretty beaten up with all that happened earlier. Being a cop Vegas was easily allowed with the information, He was now waiting in the lounge area for the center manager.
"Hello, I am Aom Chulanont, the manager of this foster center" The manager greeted with a friendly smile and wai.
"Vegas Therapanakun" Vegas replied standing up the manager was a bit taken aback by the name Therapanyakun.
"Please have a seat, how can I help you Khun Therapanyakun.
"Call me Vegas" Vegas replied politely "I was involved in a rescue mission of a few kids last month in Bangkok and was informed they were sent here, I was in the Town for some work so I thought I should see how the kids are doing.
"Thats very kind of you Khun Vegas, not many people come by to check on abandoned kids and if cops ever come, they are here for further investigation."
"How are the kids?" Vegas asked.
"They are getting accommodated well, some are sent to another foster center. The ones here are getting adjusting themselves, some are still having hard times with all the trauma they had but we are helping as much as we can with their healing. some kids have already found their real family, some are sent to foster home, we will still keep the others for around a year or two before we give them for adoption, we will try to find their families too by then."
That made a pang on Vegas' chest, he wished for the little girl to be still here and not sent to another facility or at least she should have found her real family.
Feeling anxious Vegas requested, "Can I see the kids still here?"
"OfCourse Khun Vegas, let me ask one of the caretakers to accompany you, you are just in time for evening snacks, the kids must be in the dining area or around the play area."
"Khun Joy this is Khun Vegas, he is a cop from Bangkok and wants to see the children who arrived last month."
"Hello Khun, i am Joy, one of the caretakers of children here, let me guide you" a lady in her early 50s came to take Vegas inside.
Leading Vegas, Joy made sure to also talk about the designated areas for different activities and all the facilities available for the kids.
First stop was the dining area. "Initially all the 8 kids were brought here while some were still getting treated in the hospital, later 15 more kids were brought, the remaining kids were sent to another facility directly from the hospital as it would be overwhelming for our staff to personally pay attention to all the 46 kids at a time."
The environment of the dining area was very lively, many kids were chattering among themselves while snacking, some were accompanied by their care takers, trying to make the kids eat with unique funny methods, making them feel at ease, some kids were eating silently, some were living the dining area after finishing their snacks. only half of the dining area was filled with dining tables other half along the tall windows were loose seatings, some toys for toddlers and rugs were layed down for much younger kids to have their meals fed by their caretakers.
"Here Khun, meet Joy, he has the same name as me, so I have a little bias here" she told Vegas with a wide smile and a wink " he is a happy kid and one of the firsts to make many friends as soon as he arrived."
"Here on this table, we have Cream, Cake and Jam and their caretakers" Vegas wai to the caretakers "These girls are so sweet" Joy continued and took Vegas to another table where 5 kids were eating by themselves " Here we have Bear, Ball, Senior, Big and Fluff" All the kids gave a big smile to Joy " I don't need to tell they love eating, don't I? we are glad they recovered their health fast"
she moved towards the toddler's area and got down before two younger kids around the age of one "These are little Hefei and little Macau" Joy introduced patting both kids on their heads.
"Surprising enough these kids respond to English and Chinese more than Thai, some of them are of Chinese descent. Maybe these kids were kept there or brought from there, that you will know better Khun Vegas" Joy gave a sad smile. Vegas just nodded.
Joy Introduced Vegas to few more kids but the one Vegas wanted to meet was not there and Vegas' heartbeat started raising. "Oh, I can't see our cute kids, they must be in the play area, let's go there Khun."
Reaching the play area Joy lead Vegas near the ball pit and called for the kids "Smile, Dimple, Xi'an" and there she was, Vegas can breathe now. "These are our cute kids Khun Vegas."
"WEGATH"
Again? and Vegas wasn't sure if it was just a coincidence. what are the chances? then he smiled at the little girl giving her a small wave.
And she smiled cutely with her big doe eyes, showing her dimples and then she took Vegas' breath away.
