"What time you thinking bout leaving?"
"Like nine, and be ready! I'm leaving work now to go home and get dolled the fuck up."
"Girl, Mega gon fuck you up. You keep playing with that man."
"Nah, he needs to quit playing with me. Tonight, Ima just give him a lil eye-opener and see if that helps him make up his mind."
"Biiiitch, I don't want no parts. Just make sure when you decide to toss the shit towards the fan...you let me know so I can get my black-sexy-gay ass out the way."
"Shut up!" Mila laughed. "But, you know I will. I'll call you when I'm on the way."
"Ok mama."
She had a trick up her sleeve. Something in her mind told her it was a bad idea, but she decided to do it anyway. She felt like Mega had strung her on long enough and it was time she pushed him towards a decision.
"Yo, I got a duff in the office. Grab that for me and bring it to the ball. Y'all closing down now, right? You know we gotta represent tonight, my nig."
"You already know! And yea, we shutting shit down now. But ay, dude that came through earlier? He came back and got something small from one of the girls right? But peep, I heard him talking on the horn. Had his shit on the speaker and all that. Sounded like he was talking to Mila."
"Oh word?" Mega felt a shift in his pride. "How you know it was her?"
"Come on bruh, I know that girl's voice. Shit, she dun cussed me out a million and one times, I better know it.."
"Word. What they talking bout?"
"She supposed to be meeting him at the ball. I ain't wanna tell you, but I ain't want you to roll up there and be surprised by the shit either feel me?"
"Yeah, most definitely. Good looking out though, for real."
"No doubt. I'll see you in a few."
Mega thought about calling Mila and letting loose on her, but that wasn't the move. He figured it'd be best to let the night play out before making any irrational decisions, because Polo could have easily been pulling a stunt. Niggas got down and dirty when they lost a good thing and Mega knew that's what was fueling Polo and his mischief behavior.
"What the...fuck." Mega squinted to make sure he was really seeing what he was seeing in his driveway.
After putting his jeep in park and shutting off the ignition, he sat there for a moment. Contemplating walking up on an argument, or backing out and taking off. From his own house. Instead, he put the thought of taking off behind him, got out of his jeep and headed towards the door like he was there alone.
"Hello? You don't see me sitting here?"
"Yeah." He nonchalantly called out over his shoulder.
"This is the shit I be talking about." Mila rolled her eyes as she got out of her car. "Can't never talk about shit."
Mega heard her and instantly got offended.
"Don't come over here with that shit. Take that shit to ya boy. For real."
"What the hell is your problem, Mega?"
Ignoring her, Mega walked inside his house, tossed his keys on the decorative table near the door and proceeded to go get ready for the ball.
"You don't hear me talking to you?"
Still nothing. He knew she hated to be ignored, but he didn't have anything nice to say to her at the moment and his mama always taught him: if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say shit!
"MEGA!" she shouted while slapping him across the back of his head.
"Ay! Chill out man!"
"You! What the fuck is your problem!" she snapped and pushed him against the wall. "I didn't do a damn thing to you and now you give me your ass to kiss? You and this bipolar shit you got going on? Is exactly why we're stuck where we at!"
"Nah, we stuck here cause you can't leave that nigga alone! I ain't stupid, Mila! The nigga let it slip at the shop that y'all meeting up tonight. I'm supposed to be cool with that shit?"
"Seriously?" She laughed in his face. "Are you out of your damn mind! Yes, we were meeting at the ball. So I could let you see me tell him to his FACE! To leave me the hell alone. It's done. I don't want no parts of him." She pushed his forehead. "I don't know what type of bitch you think I am, but you got me all the way fucked up. Here I am being faithful to a nigga who won't make me his girlfriend and steady thinking I'm cheating on him." She shook her head. "You know what, enjoy the rest of your life, my guy. For real. I'm out."
His pride wouldn't let him budge to go after her, despite the fact that she was crying when she left. Mila made everything sound like it was his fault when in all actuality, she was the reason he had trust issues with her. When they first started fooling around, Mila couldn't get over Polo. Mega felt like he should've put his foot down more at the time, but at the same time he wasn't really trying to be in a relationship.
He figured if she really fucked with him she would do what she needed to do to put her past behind her and move forward with whatever it was they had going on. After so much time passed, he started to feel like she wasn't ready and he couldn't do anything but accept it. He figured it was a good thing they finally parted ways. The ups and downs were getting old and in the back of his mind, Mega wanted to be a free man. At least, that's what he felt like in the heat of the moment.
"Are we still on for tonight? Because I'm home getting ready."
He really didn't feel like going to the ball after fighting with Mila, but he was a man of his word, so he kept it.
"Yeah. Send me a pic."
"For what? You're going to see me in a little bit."
"I wanna make sure we look good together."
"Did we look good together earlier?"
"Mmm...I think we did. What you think?"
"Oddly...It looked like we were already dating."
"Good. I'll text you when I'm pulling up."
With two hours to get ready, Mega poured himself a drink, hit his blunt a few times, and headed to the upstairs of his loft to take a shower and get ready for the ball.
Mila was such a wreck. As soon as she left Mega's house she went to her best friend's house to cry her eyes out. She was so mad and hurt she wanted to flat all of his tires and bust out his windows. Of course, her best friend was willing to ride with her through it all, but that wasn't in Mila's character. There was no way in hell she was going to let him off that easily.
"What's up? What we doing? Cause I'm ready for whatever. I like Mega, he's a good dude and everything, but ain't nobody gon fuck over my friend. Period."
"Look at my eyes." Mila finally sat up on the bed and looked in the mirror.
"All that damn crying."
"I'm so fucking mad, Cali. You don't even know. I wanna slap the hell out of this nigga."
"I can imagine. But, listen, we going to the ball or not? Cause I got somebody who wants to meet you there."
"Who?"
"This guy from my job. He cute as hell and knows what he wants."
"Girl." Mila rolled her eyes. "I am not trying to rush into no relationship. I don't even wanna see another man in that way for a long time."
"So, is that a yes or no to the ball?"
"That's all you care about." Mila laughed, getting up to grab her keys. "But, yes. You damn right we going. Ima show this nigga about playing with me."
"My motherfucking girl."
