2014, The Triskelion, Washington D.C

Bucky and Steve stood by a microphone that would blast their voices through the building. "Attention, all SHIELD agents," Steve began, glancing at Bucky. They had a short script, but the rest was improvised, their only focus being effectiveness. After all, Marni had told them that a true speech had to come from the heart, and this one would.

Their plan was simple yet complicated. They had to replace three targeting chips with their own in each Helicarrier when they launched. Taking down SHIELD and HYDRA together, for good. Fury finally gave in, seeing their logic that something like this could happen again. The plan was up to the two super soldiers and Falcon to insert the chips into the Helicarrier consoles.

"This is James Barnes and Steve Rogers," Bucky continued after Steve, using his real name instead of his childhood nickname. "You've heard a lot about us over the last couple of days, some of you were ordered to hunt us down." He nodded to Steve to continue.

Steve accepted, "But it's time you knew the truth." He paused, letting silence fill the room before he began again, his voice confident and honest. "SHIELD is not what we thought; it's been taken over by HYDRA."

"Alexander Pierce is their leader," Bucky exclaimed, infusing his voice with hate. He knew there was an unsettling feeling rolling off that man. He was probably the one who sent Marni after them. "The STRIKE and Insight crew are all HYDRA as well. We don't know how many more, but they're in the building."

"They could be standing right beside you," Steve spoke, anticipating that more than half the people in the building had no idea what was happening until now. Some might not believe them. They were considered criminals after all, but he was willing to bet that by the end of the speech, people would see what was happening and help stop HYDRA's plan. "They almost have what they desire: absolute control."

"They shot the Director, Nick Fury." Bucky leaned closer to the microphone. "It won't end there either if you launch those Helicarriers; HYDRA will be able to kill anyone that stands in their way unless we stop them."

"We know we're asking for a lot," Steve acknowledged the inevitable deaths today, but this was a war they intended to win, going after Marni and bringing her back before it was too late. "The price of freedom is high, always has been, but it's a price we're willing to pay." He shrugged. "If we're the only ones, then so be it." He looked at his best friend.

Bucky grinned, eager to finish the speech. "But we're willing to bet we're not." Now was the time their plans started.

Steve sprinted to his console, shielding himself from the onslaught of bullets with his shield held to the side. Retrieving the chip from his pocket, he swiftly inserted it into the console. Agent Hill coordinated with her computer, bringing everything down to the ground.

Falcon flew up to his station, mirroring Steve's actions.

Winter strode across the plane dock, her bomb gun in hand. After her memory was wiped clean by Pierce following the events of the previous day, she became an emotionless being - HYDRA deemed it too dangerous for her to feel anything this time.

Her arm raised, she fired the gun toward one of the planes taking off, determined to eliminate anyone opposing HYDRA's cause. Swiftly switching to a machine gun with regular bullets, she began firing at those attempting to stop her.

Approaching a small grenade that had been thrown at her, Winter grabbed it and tossed it into a closing plane, causing a destructive explosion that consumed everyone inside.
