Emily's Pov
When I pulled myself together I crawled into the bed whether I was suppose to or not. The day had been so crazy with the ceremony and all.
Earlier that day
Today was the same as any ceremony held each month. Each seventeen year old is entered in a draw to be released to the wilderness to start a new community. This all happens because our town has been in a deep winter for the past 4 years, this is our way of trying to survive. It benefits our town either way if we find new land or not, if we don't it just means less people to feed.
The draw began and a girls name was pulled, the name was Rain Scott. Rain had short black hair with green eyes, she was always known as the girl who got every boy she ever wanted to like her. Her pretty makeup filled face looked shocked as she walked to the stage where a guard took her to her cell.
The next name was pulled, it was a boy named Chad Star, he had bright blue eyes and light brown hair. He was a farmers boy who always snuck out to be with his so called friends that only valued his popularity. He was considered the jock of our town. Once he was on the stage a mans voice called to him, I'm pretty sure it was his dad...
Then Marianna Rosa was called up, a curly blonde stood up with grey eyes she looked at her brother who only whimpered. She pushed in her glasses with her finger and walked up to the stage as proudly as she could. She tried not to show any fear but underneath her poker expression was a water filled glare that she gave to our president Mr. Frederick Celia.
I felt pretty confident that I wouldn't be called, I had pretty good karma on my side after all I did save Kendra Keith's chickens last month.
Then Preston Celia was called, yes he is the presidents son but the president wouldn't care less if his son never returned. Preston had blonde hair and gold tinted eyes. Preston got up from his chair and looked directly at his father. He knew that his dad wouldn't do anything for him. He walked to the stage and disappeared into the back.
Before I knew it another name was called a name so beautiful that it sounded like a rainbow flowing across the sky, the name was Emily Simons... Wait that's my name! I sat still not realizing what had just happened. The girl I was sitting beside tapped my shoulder and I stood up. I took a few steps towards the stage before I passed out. I guess I won't know who the last release is...
