𝐇𝐄𝐘, 𝐔𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐑 𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐓 Siders, it's that time of year again when the mere act of descending a staircase means you're a woman. That's right, debutante season. And from what we hear, there's been some changes to the lineup. My head was spinning at a hundred miles an hour. I had never replied to my ex-boyfriend's message, unsure of what to say. He always had a way of roping me back in even when he didn't deserve it.
I hadn't even told my sister about the unexpected text, needing to process my feelings on my own. Although, I had plenty of distractions for the day.
I entered the hall with my sister, being careful to dodge any of the debs who were learning the dance in the middle. The older girl immediately approached her boyfriend who was standing on the other end of the room and pulled him into a hug.
He reciprocated the hug and grinned as she gushed, "I'm so glad. I can't wait for you to meet my grandma CeCe. You're just gonna love her."
The boy smiled at his girlfriend's happiness, "I'm sure I will."
Serena and I adored our grandmother. She was such a fun and vibrant woman and I don't think I've ever idolised anyone more.
My mom suddenly entered the room, ending her phone call as she approached us. She pulled me into her side as I turned to Jenny Humphrey who was standing with her brother, "Jenny, what are you even doing here?"
"She loves these things apparently," Dan replied for her.
Lily rolled her eyes, "Well, I wish Serena did. It would make my life a whole lot easier. At least Nova does." I giggled, placing a kiss on my mother's cheek, "This is why you're my favourite."
My sister gasped fakely before she explained, "My grandma was the chairwoman for this event for fifteen years. And now the committees asked my mom to join."
"And my oldest daughter could not wait to go for ten years and then suddenly, she's not even coming." She complained. I watched as the youngest Humphrey watched the girls admiringly.
"Jenny? Why don't you volunteer?" I suggested.
She shrugged hesitantly, "Well, Blair's lead deb, and we're sort of on the outs. I'm sure if she wanted my help she would have asked."
"Well, I'm asking." My mom cut in. I smiled at her thankfully as I watched her smile grow, "I mean, of course, we'd have to get your parent's permission fist but we could use your help."
She nodded enthusiastically, "I'm sure it will be fine. See you Saturday."
"Sunday," I corrected.
She nodded before leaving the room. Suddenly, my grandma waltzed into the room with a grin plastered across her face. She immediately brought my sister and I into her arms, "Here are my favourite girls."
