It had been a week since Melody stopped hearing from Kol. She lost her appetite, lost weight, she felt sick constantly. In some way she was grieving, she had lost her person although he was still alive he was gone from her world.
She felt lost. And even worse she still loved him, she felt no hate. She was just feeling lonely and confused. She couldn't sleep for the past week, she kept having dreams of Kol coming back or messaging her. And when she woke up there was nothing from him. She had been crying all week, and today she had no tears left. When she went to the toilet, she was forced to look at her appearance in the mirror above the sink, she was marked by the aftermath of emotional turmoil, weariness, and distress. Her once vibrant eyes were now swollen and bloodshot, the telltale signs of countless tears shed in anguish. Dark circles underscored them like smudges of charcoal, evidence of sleepless nights.
"Oh god" She mumbled.
Her face was drained of color by the weight of her sorrow. Even her lips, usually curved in a gentle smile, now hung heavy with weariness, the corners downturned in a silent plea for solace. Her hair, usually gleaming with health, now hung limp and tangled around her face, loose curls by her side. Each strand seemed to mirror the tangled mess of emotions that churned in her heart. But it wasn't just her physical appearance that betrayed the depth of her distress; it was the weight of her exhaustion that hung heavy in the air around her. Every movement seemed to require an enormous amount of effort as if the very act of existing had become a burden too heavy to bear.
Melody went back to bed, that's where she was hiding. She was thinking about when her friends told her about their heartbreaks it felt like mourning a loved one, but she never understood them. Now she knew how awful it felt. And she let her thoughts take over.
How was it so easy for Kol to let her go after all the memories they made, and the time spent together, and after all the love she thought was real? She didn't understand why she wasn't good enough, not even enough to be told he was going to leave her. She didn't know there was a cold side to him, she loved everything about him and she thought she loved him too much. How could she not love his laugh, that smile, and his green eyes. She had been alone for so long, and now she didn't know how to get back to being on her own.
She'd never felt more loved and safe. He was the one boy who made her feel comfortable, comfortable with letting him know every part of me, of my life. that he was the person i'd go to first whenever something happened, he was her best friend. He seemed to know her better than she did herself.
Two weeks later, Melody began eating again but not in her usual portions. She had lost a lot of weight which even her work friends worried. When it was her first day back at work since the so-called breakup, she found it difficult but it helped distract her from missing Kol. Any chance she was alone she would miss him. She always thought of you him before she fell asleep. She often wondered if he missed her. She thought about the things they laughed about.
"Maybe it's time to accept that not every right thing comes at the right time" Athena said.
"I know" Melody responded. "I just miss him"
"You don't hate how he left you?" She asked.
"I don't have any hate for him" Melody said.
"You're too nice for him anyways" Athena smiled. "It's time for your break now"
"Okay, I'll see you in an hour," Melody said as she walked into the back and sat down. She started thinking again.
Although her heart was hurting right now, she believed that being with Kol showed her how to feel loved and cared for. He taught her things in life that she'll always carry. He showed her how to be patient and mature, and how to open up about her feelings even though he wasn't good with showing his. If she was given a chance to do it all over again, she would do it in a heartbeat.
Now everything was different, he was somewhere in the world, not thinking about Melody at all. She still loved him, but it was like loving a ghost a ghost that's not dead, and knowing that makes it so much more so much worse.
When she had told Athena she didn't hate him, it was the truth. Truthfully, she just hated that she held onto hope that they'd find their way back to each other.
They may not have ended up together like they promised but loving Kol was one of the greatest feelings she ever had. He made her the happiest she had ever felt in a long time and she would be forever grateful for that.
Maybe in another lifetime they'll try again and make it work.
