It had been five months since they had broken up. And unfortunately, Melody was still not over Kol. Although she was in a much better place, she was focusing on her studies, trying to get back into her hobbies, and hanging out with friends. But with all of these distractions, she always found herself thinking about him, mostly at night when she had nothing to keep her mind busy.

She still felt something in her chest when she thought about him. And she would only remember the good moments, the time they spent together, laughing. Those were her favourites. And she realised she hadn't stopped loving him, she was only disconnected from him.

She would wonder if he was doing alright, or if he was thinking of her. Some days she wanted to call him to hear his voice and to know if he was okay. She would also wonder why she wasn't good enough for him. What was so wrong with her for him to disappear? And she thought about all of her flaws which she hadn't noticed when they were dating, she'd forgotten her insecurities because he had made her feel safe. But now, all she could see was her horrible features, crooked nose, dry curls, dark eyebags, pigmentation on her face, and spots on her cheeks and nose. And she couldn't forget her not-so-perfect body. She didn't feel worthy of anyone anymore.

She was tired. Melody felt hopeless and lonely. Even though she was continuing with her life, she still felt empty. The days were the same, she'd go to work then go home and when she did see her friends it was very rare but she didn't have much to contribute to their conversations. She lost her person, her best friend, her spark. He became her motivation to do things in life.

She missed him. But she always felt that he wouldn't miss her, if it was so easy for him to vanish then it was easy for him to forget about her. At times she felt angry, but she opened up to Kol and shared personal things, now he's just a person with every bit of knowledge about her. And she's just a person with enough knowledge about him.

She was angry that she let him into her life, letting her guard down, she never believed there was anything bad in him. She was angry that he didn't have the courage to even message her goodbye or a reason for going. She had no closure. And it was embarrassing when her friends had asked her what happened and all she could say was, she didn't know. And it was confusing.

And she's afraid now. She doesn't want to fall in love again or find anyone else. Melody decided to stay on her own at least until she could forget about Kol. Her heart wasn't ready to move on. She was still hurt by the fact that no matter how much she loved Kol she wasn't enough for him to stay, he broke their promise. He had left her all alone with a broken heart and she couldn't forgive him for it.

She didn't hate him, and she couldn't believe it. Kol had broken her and she should hate him for it but she couldn't. How can you hate someone who's also learning from their life lessons? Her lesson right now was to heal. And it was taking longer than she had thought.

Melody always saw happy endings in most books and movies. She didn't know what to do, because the main characters always got what they needed at the end. All she needed was to be lying in his arms and that wasn't her reality.

She had to be alone. But if he ever called her one day even if it was years later, she would pick up. That's how much love she had for him.

Melody was living with a broken heart and it would take a lot of time for it to be mended. And she decided during that time she had to focus on herself. She needed to focus on her passion and her career. And Kol had to be a last thought, and one day Kol wouldn't be a thought.

For now, Melody had only herself.
