The podium took a little while to reach the bottom of the hole, but when it did, we found it to be small in comparison to the larger circular floor of the area. There were what looked like doors and little hatches dotted around the concrete walls, some of which were masked by chandeliers, candles and other fancy decorations. In a circular formation around us were 15 podiums, fashioned to look like the ones they use during trials, each with a name burnt into the front. Offset to the back were two fancy thrones, taken up by MonoMutt and MonoRam.
I noticed Hahaku's podium was taken up by a portrait of him, with the face "X"ed out in scratchy, blood-coloured marker. Or maybe it was just blood... better not to think about it.

Shin: Oi!! Dickhead!! Wot's this bloody picture for?!
MonoMutt: Well, we can't just have an empty podium, can we?
Shin: Ye' you can!!
MonoMutt: I guess you're right, but this is way funnier! Muahahahahaha!
MonoRam: Stop changing your laugh.
MonoMutt: Upupupu!
MonoRam: Sometimes I wonder why our mum didn't abort you.
MonoMutt: GASP! SO MEAN!!!
Alexandra: Get on with the trial, you mangy little shits!
MonoMutt: Fine, bitch! Check your fuckin' MonoPad rulebooks first.
We did as instructed. Noticeably, there were a few new rules added to the mix.
RULE 7: Students cease to be participants when their body is discovered via official body discovery, and therefore cannot be voted for during a trial.
RULE 8: All participants must be present when the trial begins.
RULE 9: If the blackened is voted by the majority, they will be executed. Conversely, if the majority is incorrect, all but the blackened will die and the blackened will go free.
RULE 10: Attempting to tamper with or halt an execution will result in instant death. The same goes for breaking any of the above rules.
I felt a lump begin to form in my throat. The stakes of this game were impossibly high; one wrong move and we could all be sent to our deaths. It was obvious that we would have to be extremely careful if we wanted to make it out of the trial alive.
