Several months before Wen arrives on Nevarro to form his own crew, Cad Bane stares at the blank walls of his cell, plotting his next escape. A prison guard knocks twice outside his cell and kicks a holoprojector under the door.

"Bane. I require your services." Count Dooku instructs through the holoprojector, "The clone trooper known as Kix needs to be dealt with. He's been investigating things that he shouldn't be. Take him alive. We need to see exactly what he knows. I trust you will have it handled?"

"I trust you'll be fast with my invoice," Cad Bane replies.

After the transmission with Dooku ends, he sends out another one.

"Wen," Cad says as the holoprojection opens.

"Hey uncle, what's good?" Wen replies.

"It's time kid,"

"It's time? Like, you want me to run my own job, time?" Wen asks, struggling to display a calm demeanor while his excitement builds on the inside.

"Let's not get hasty. I want you to run MY job. I'm going to coordinate the plan, your job is to carry it out. Got it?"

"No sweat, I won't let you down,"

"I'll believe it when I see it," Cad Bane replies and abruptly shuts down the comm.

In a dark room on Coruscant, Wen greets  Robonino, Aurra Sing and Embo.

"How's the breeze up there Aurra? Bubble brain, how you living Robonino? ...Embo, you still don't talk much," Wen says as he exchanges hi fives and handshakes with the crew.

"As you know, I'm still.... incapacitated. "Wen here is gonna lead this op." Cad Bane informs the crew via his holoprojector.

Aurra Sing glances over at Wen. "You think the kid is ready?"

Cad looks over at Wen. "He's ready," He responds as Wen nods.

Wen then flashes back to his adolescence, when Cad trained him. During a sparring session, Cad dodges Wen's left hook and hits him with a sucker punch to the gut.

"Well that was... loving," Wen says as he coughs up a little blood.

"Don't be so soft," Cad responds as Wen struggles to get back up. "You're gonna face enemies that hit twice as hard as me,"

Wen rushes him for another round. They exchange blows before Cad gets the upper hand again, and brutally kicks Wen.

"Again."

"Again?"

"Again."

They go at it once again, but Wen's melee skills are still no match for Cad's. After knocking him down yet again Cad says,

"Disappointing," He looks at his wrist. "But it's time for target practice anyway, go grab two blasters from my ship,"

Wen weakly nods and goes to the ship.

"I can't thank you enough for this,"

Wen's mother approaches Cad from behind.

"I know you're tough on him, but I can tell that he's really taken to you as his father figure," she continues.

"He's still raw. But there's a lot of potential in the kid. I want him to be as good as me one day. Someone's gotta take over when I retire to work behind the scenes," he says.

Wen then returns from the ship and throws Cad another pistol. He and Cad begin training by shooting moving targets. Cad looks over at Wen intently focused and allows a small smile to creep over his face. He quickly returns to his usual demeanor and continues to fire at the targets.
