Well, to say history was made yesterday in an understatement. It all started when I woke up and went to the kitchen. Macey was scrolling through her phone at the table. As I poured a bowl of cereal, she gasped loudly enough for me to almost drop the box!
"What is it?" I asked.
"The Supreme Court!" She gasped.
"What about it?"
"They legalized gay marriage in all 50 states!"
My eyes widened when she said that. I could've sworn I had heard her incorrectly, too. But, I asked her to repeat it and she gave the same answer.
"Holy...! I never thought it would actually happen...!" I said as I sat down.
"Me neither! Isn't it exciting!?"
"Uh, yeah...sure..."
She just rolled her eyes.
"Seriously, I don't understand why you have a problem with gay marriage," she continued as she looked back at her phone. "Is it because you're not gay?"
"I don't know. I just don't find it natural."
"Eh. You're just not ready for change."
"Maybe."
We then finished breakfast in silence. But the topic was far from over; everywhere I went, whether it be Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, YouTube, Instagram, even Snapchat, I saw a reminder of the news. It was the first time I ever was willingly not being on my phone.
I don't fully understand why I never liked the idea of homosexuality. I mean, I know people who are gay who happen to be close friends and I don't have a problem with them! It's just...weird. I know it shouldn't be bothering me, but it is.
At least I'm not getting hate for my belief, but it's probably because I'm not a religious guy; if I was, I guarantee the LGBT community would be down my throat if I said one bad thing about them, which I actually find ironic. After all, aren't they doing to the religious people what they don't want to happen to them?
Oh, well...I'm all for human equality, so I guess I can't complain too much about it. And if it'll make some people happy, who am I to stop them? In the end, I'm just a guy with his beliefs. I just hope I don't get hate for this...
