I walked into the apartment with a gloomy face. As I closed the door, I heard footsteps from the kitchen slowly approach. A second later, Macey's head poked out of the doorway and looked at me with confusion.
"You're home early," she said slowly.
"Yeah, I know," I replied as I sat on the couch with a sigh.
She stared at me for a bit before her eyes widened and she put her hand to her mouth.
"What did you do?" She asked.
"Well, remember how the manager, Josh, said that there's a strict 'no-tardy' policy?"
"...yeah...?"
"Well, traffic was bad today and...well..."
"Didn't you call and tell him?"
"I tried, but nobody answered!"
"Did you explain when you got there?"
"He wouldn't let me. He just said I was done and to get out now."
We were both silent after that. I just sighed and rubbed my forehead. Macey just pat my shoulder.
"Well, what can I say?" She finally told me. "He sounded like a dick, anyway. Consider this a blessing."
"I guess. But there goes our income."
"Hey, I have a job, too, ya know!"
"Yeah, but still..."
"Hey, I know you feel bad about me earning all the money, but it's fine!"
"You mean you're not going to force me to get another job?"
"Normally, I would; however, we both know what happened last time I did..."
She had a strong point. I don't think she's ever forgiven herself for making me take that job at Freddy's, but it's not completely her fault; I should've read that stupid contract...
"Alright," I told her. "I'll just do my thing for a while."
She then smiled and gave a quick back-pat before heading towards the door.
"Where are you going?" I asked.
"Work," she replied. "I'll be back by 10."
"Alright. See ya then!"
She nodded and left the apartment. I then sighed yet again and put my face in my hands. Man, my third job and I get fired. Of course, my first two jobs ended because the establishments were nuthouses, so I suppose this isn't the worst thing to happen.
I then lied down and turned on the TV. Maybe that would help distract me.
