I refuse to let this be a high school setting, so it's a college setting. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I shifted uncomfortably in my seat, barely hearing the words the Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, spoke about the start of the new term. I was in fact, fully aware of the eyes of half the Slytherin table as they stared unabashedly at me. I wish Draco were here.. or.. My eyes flick over to Pansy Parkinson, whom I had just recently met on the Hogwarts Express. Her dark eyes were murderous as she stared back at me. He might make it worse come to think of it...

I huff a sigh, and choose to ignore everyone as I further block out everything around me. I think again of sitting on that small stool as the schools sorting hat whispered in my ear that if I were braver I would do well as a Gryffindor, but I had the cunning and wit of a true Slytherin. Pushing that away, my mind drifts back over summer break where I had flown from America, and driven privately from the airport to Malfoy Manner. I arrived with all of my belongings, school stuff, my cat, and a thick envelope addressed from my parents to the Malfoys.

I suppress a smile as I recalled meeting Draco for the first time. His cheeks were flushed a rosy pink, and he had been dressed to the nines in what looked to be his best suit. He had bowed delicately to me before his mother ushered me inside and locked the door behind me. I had been somewhat alarmed at the time.. before I had know about everything that was going on...

She had ushered us into a sitting room for tea, assuring me that the servants would take care of my belongings. It had been as awkward as I had feared, both of us quiet and sizing up the fiancé our parents had decided on for us...

My daydreaming was interrupted when Draco stiffly sits down next to me, his grey eyes blazing with fury. "What's wrong?" I whisper, looking him over to make sure he was alright. "You missed the ceremony..." I had done my research when my parents had broke the news to me that I would be moving across the country to live with the boy I was now engaged to. Dracos mother had assured us both, even though we never asked, that I would be placed in Slytherin and accommodations would be made for us to share a living space while at school to "get to know one another".

"Nothing," he said tightly. "I'll explain later." I studied the hard lines of his face before dropping the matter. Over the summer, I learned quickly not too push him into talking when he didn't want to. I look away, once more reminiscing over those long summer days I had spent with Draco as we talked all day in the middle of the wild flower fields surrounding his home.

I sneak a peak over at him, but he was glaring at the table, avoiding eye contact with his friends. I open my mouth to say something when he pushes up abruptly. "Come on, it's over and I'm tired." I nod my head, and file after him with the rest of the Slytherin house. I look around as we walk, taken away by the sheer beauty of the magical castle.

"What do we have here? This must be the transfer student.." I look up and see a squat round man, floating upside down, who was staring at me with a wide grin on his face. "You must be evil indeed, if you're following Malfoys lead..," he says in a singsong voice.

"Come off it Peeves," Draco growled. Peeves blew a raspberry before floating off, still upside down. I couldn't help but grin.

"This school is amazing."

Draco hardly bothered to point out anything in the common room as he all but stomped to a staircase off to the right. "Our room is up here..." He looked back at me as I followed him, and I notice his cheeks are slightly pink. Good to know he's just as embarrassed by this as I am...

He leads me down a dark hallway, the walls made of a dark stone and stops before a black door. He gestures to it before turning the handle, and stepping aside to let me in first. Both of our trunks were seated on a bench that stood before a huge wrought iron bed. The sheets were a emerald green that was so dark, it looked nearly black. A matching rug adorned the floor in front of crackling fire. A large, wide dresser and vanity sat across from the bed, matching tables sat on either side of it, both having their own lamps resting upon them. A door was shut across the room and I assumed that was the restroom. Total privacy... Should have guessed..
