Minjeong should always keep in mind that Karina Yu isn't afraid to break a few rules. If she was, then they wouldn't be out on the streets of Tokyo at one in the morning five hours after they landed simply because Karina wanted to ‘eat out’.
Date Karina, they said. It'll be worth it, they said. (They, whoever they are, did not say anything of the sort.) And Minjeong would think it is worth dating Karina despite it not being real, if she wasn't so sleepy as they speak.
“Jimin, is all of this necessary?” She asks as she stands on one end of the air hockey table while the artist stands opposite her, excitedly pulling out a puck and setting it atop the surface of the table.
Karina gives her a little glare. “Yes. It, so very, is.”
There's definitely no way out of this now that the artist has her hands on a couple dozen tokens — maybe even more than that; Minjeong doesn't have photographic memory to be able to recall exactly how many Karina paid for. But what she does know is that a sulky Karina is hard to deal with. So with shoulders as heavy as her drowse, she picks up the mallet and awaits the red puck.
She finds out a minute into it that she isn't as bad at this game as she thought she'd be. Karina also doesn't suck at it. And that only leads to one probability; they get competitive.
“That's cheating!” Karina shouts angrily. She drops her mallet, paying no heed to the puck that rattles in the slot on her end. Minjeong has her arms thrown up in a triumphant hurrah and she points fingers at the artist for losing. “You can't hit it twice, Jeongie.”
Minjeong freezes, looking at Karina like she's grown two heads. “That's not in the rules.”
Karina rummages for the puck and slams it down on the table. “Well, now it is. Only hit once and no sneaks.” She huffs and blows her hair out of her face. (Minjeong thinks she looks adorable doing it. Oh no, I'm so smitten, she realizes.) “One more round.”
She's been saying that for over fifteen minutes, and they've been playing for over twenty. However, Minjeong is a good girlfr— fake... girlfriend. So she picks up her mallet again.
This time Minjeong loses on purpose. She makes it look like she slips up, lets go of the mallet, and watches as the puck slides into the slot with a horrified look on her face. Karina bounces on her feet and cheers louder than Minjeong has ever heard her speak. She also doesn't miss the opportunity to stick her tongue out in Minjeong's direction.
It's cute. Karina's cute. Oh my fuck, shut up please. Minjeong results in smiling at the artist instead of entertaining her own thoughts.
“Aren't you tired, Jimin?” She asks when Karina finally calms down and chuckles when the artist shakes her head no. “You know, if your manager finds out we aren't asleep right now, we'll be in so much trouble.”
Karina shrugs her shoulders. “Wouldn't be my first time,” Her nose scrunches adorably and then she runs off to the basketball game. “Come on, Jeongie!”
They're on their way back to the hotel. Minjeong notes how quiet Karina has gotten since they left the arcade. When she turns to look at the artist, Karina is staring up ahead, pouting. Oh, Jimin, you adorable little thing..
“You regret not playing.” Minjeong says, smile cutting through her voice as she's interrupted by her own yawn that comes subsequently after.
(“You're not playing?” There's a frown on Karina's face when Minjeong shakes her head no. “Are you too sleepy?”
Minjeong laughs. “A little, yeah. But I'll watch you play.”
The artist stares at the ball in her hands before setting it back down in its original place. When she spins around, she meets Minjeong's eyes with a small smile. Holding out her hand, “Let's get back then.”
