"is this like one of those isekai stories, kensuke talks about on occasion" he asked himself, as he made his way to the destroyed wall where he could peer outside, into the chaos that was unfolding it appeared to be a pitched battle between creatures, that could only be described as dragons with sci-fi mechanical armor and riders because of course they had riders, and they were pitted against. they were fighting giant mechanical eight-legged walkers, that was easily at least half the size of an evangelion
"i need to get out of here" i muttered to myself, i was fortunately only on the second floor so i carefully let myself down using the ledge of the building to get on the ground, i then started running, away from the eight-legged machines, as i was running i ran into a crying little girl, who couldn't be older then ten years old, i ran over to her
"hey, it's alright, but we can't stay here it's not safe, i'll help you get to your mommy and daddy" i said, smiling reassuringly at her
"you promise" she asked
"i'll do my best" was my reply, i wouldn't actually make a promise to the girl, her parents may be dead after all, and i wasn't one who liked breaking any promises i made
"ok" she said
"come on" i said, as i picked her up, thanking god for all the EVA training, as i started running with the eight year old in my arms, i ran straight into one of the walkers

"not now little one" i said, as the walker attacked and i prayed to the lords almighty this plan worked, as i held out my hand and concentrated on creating an AT-field to my immense relief, the hexagonal barrier appeared, blocking the attack, i concentrated further as a spiritual arm punched the walker, i turned to see unit-13 in a spiritual form over me
"thanks, i owe ya" i said, to the spirit which didn't respond as i started running again
fortunately, or unfortunately for me, i was spotted by one of the dragons, this one had no rider, but she was still equipped with that super advanced armor
"hey, get on, you'll both be safer with me" the dragon said in a very feminine voice
"why do i feel that is by far the opposite from the truth" i asked warily, but as i heard an explosion i turned to see three walkers coming towards us from behind, and another two in front
"it's either me or them" the dragon said, i looked at the little girl
"i have your word you will get us to safety" i asked
