And the sunbeams fade away

Keeping time by a pendulum

As the fabric starts to fray

There's no such thing as time to kill

Nor time to throw away

Josephine Pucelle opened her eyes, the light almost blinding her at first. She squinted, trying to focus on the vague shapes in front of her. As her vision slowly cleared, she realized she was lying on something soft and warm. She tentatively reached out and felt the feathery surface beneath her fingers. The feathers were warm and soft, like nothing she had ever felt before.

She sat up, taking in her surroundings.

The street she found herself in was indeed tidy and quaint, lined with well-kept houses and neatly trimmed hedges. The air was crisp and fresh, filled with the sweet scent of flowers and the chirping of birds. Josephine marveled at the peacefulness of it all, a stark contrast to the chaos and destruction she had left behind.

Her twilight eyes blinked slowly as she tried filtering her thoughts. She studied the warm, soft Caramel coloured feather beneath her hand. They were too big for any bird she had known of. Her eyes trailed the massive wings to their host.

Josephine gave a gasp in disbelief. The creature attached to the soft wings was Light Yagami. Self proclaimed god and killer known as Kira. Not to mention a fictional character up until a few minutes ago. She left the warm feathers flinching ever so slightly away from her.

The air was thick with anticipation and fear. Josephine's heart raced as she took in the sight before her. Light Yagami, the man who had brought death and terror to the world, was now sitting beside her, his wings spread wide like some sort of dark angel. His bright eyes flickered open.

She didn't dare to move, fearing that any sudden movement might provoke him. The air felt heavy with the weight of their silence. Her fingers twitched, itching to touch the feather again, but she resisted. She had to remain calm.

A gasp left his lips as his wings seemed to disappear from her view. Jospehine's lips quivered, curious to see how Light had made them vanish so suddenly. His almost amber eyes seemed to study her. It was as if she were a piece of a puzzle that didn't seem to fit.

Light let out a soft chuckle, "You are curious, aren't you?"

His voice was smooth and silky, like honey poured over her skin.

"These wings... are probably part of Ryuk's sick sense of humor. But more than likely, they are a reminder of my time as a Shinigami."

"You were Chrono." Her eyes widened in realization as Light rolled his eyes.

"It took you long enough." Grumbled Light as Josphine felt her eye twitch in annoyance at his smartass tone.

"I apologize if I was too slow to make the connection." She retorted through gritted teeth, trying her best to keep her anger in check.

"But I did not expect to find you here, in this... this form. Last time I checked, you looked more like a skeleton than a human."

Light chuckled softly, his amber eyes studying her. "Ah, yes. The Shinigami form. Can't say I was particularly fond of it."

"So who are you? You can't be fully human if you were in the Shinigami world." Light stated calmly, his eyes studying her features, trying to find something familiar in them.
