"Maybe if you were better trained you could have left behind a legacy instead of a corpse.'' I felt his eyes on me, and glanced at him.
"I have left a legacy." I told him, my eyes returning to the bandaged man who always seemed so above me, it almost hurt. I sometimes forgot he was just a broken child, wallowing in the depths of his own despair. "Have you seen what this boy is capable of? He is more than enough of a legacy to have left behind."
"He'll be dead before you know it.'' He commented, swishing his drink around in his hand, a solemn look on his face.
''I'd be inclined to disagree with you.'' I replied, standing up. I'm done for the night. I've heard enough of these two bickering. ''I think he'll outlive us all. Whether that be out of sheer spite or pure luck, he'll survive. I bet my legacy on it.''
''Hey, Odasaku, where are you going? We're not done yet!'' Dazai complained, grabbing my sleeve in an attempt to sit me back down.
''I'm going home, Dazai. I'll see you later.'' I replied, ruffling his hair, and he let out a huff of annoyance.
''This is all your fault, Chuuya! If you hadn't showed your stupid face, I could have had a better time.'' Dazai said, glaring at the ginger sitting next to him.
''How is that my fault, you stupid mackerel?!'' Chuuya growled in response as I walked out, not wishing to hear the end of the argument. It always ends the same. I walked out into the rain, letting myself get soaked. I'm glad he eventually becomes part of the side that saves people. I'm happy that he is my legacy.
''ODASAKU! ODASAKU, WAIT A SECOND.'' I stopped and turned to see Dazai standing in the doorway, his visible eye lost and confused. I knew he was listening to our conversation. He always is. That was very Dazai of him. Always wary of those around him. It must be a lonely existence. ''What did you mean when you said I'd outlive everyone? When you said that I would continue your legacy?''
''You'll se-''
''I don't wanna lose you. You and Chuuya are all I have. I'm scared.'' He had started walking towards me, and there were tears mixing in with the rain. He was a child, and I was all he had to latch onto. In a way, it was selfish, leaving the way I did. I knew that. But sometimes a little pain is worth it.
