Kearney's Perspective

Watching that bitch's face fall is the best thing I have ever seen in my life. There was actual real emotion there. None of this fake mess she has been poorly acting out.

A beat of silence falls throughout the cell. Until there is a scratching sound on the other side of the blood painted door. 'Looks like the guest has arrived,' I say almost sing-songy.

The alpha moves more in the center of the cell bars as she moves to stand just before the cot. I open the door and allow the wolf to step past me. His body rough for wear, his eyes red and yellow – the typical mark of a rogue.

'Axel..' Audry mutters, barely a whisper. But everyone heard it, including her true mate.

The rogue moves into the room, the claws of his paws clinking against the stones of the cell floor. He snarls as he rounds behind me. His dense brindle fur is decorated with scars and dry blood patches. The large wolf stops beside the chair I was occupying; his eyes trained on the trembling female.

I lean against the drawn door, propping a foot up against it. My eyes flicker to the alpha just beyond the bars. His anger coming off him in tangible rivets, and his eyes are completely silver. I expected more of a manic show – like he did before trying to save her from me, ramming himself in the bars and burning himself.

'Now that my good, good friend is here..' I begin and am cut off with a quick snap of the rogue's neck.

He growls lowly and his tongue's tip peeks from between his teeth. 'Yes, I have not forgotten our bargain, Sir Axel.'

Audry hugs herself to stop the trembling. She isn't scared and knows she is not able to hide any longer. She closes her eyes. Her bond, thought rejected on her side, was not completely severed. She still feels him.. needs him.. The bond is triggered by being in proximity to Axel. We can even smell the difference in her scent. Just because that dumb alpha marked her, it cannot not break the bond of true mates.

With the flick of my wrist, a bowl appears in my palm. I move in front of the rogue and place the bowl in front of him, removing the contents. There are folded shorts and a corked bottle with green liquid inside. After the liquid is poured, the rogue laps it up greedily.

I chuckle and step back. 'I see someone is eager to be a man again.'

Audry moves her terrified and aroused gaze to me. 'What have you become, Kearney?' she asks, more sneers. 'You were nothing but a weak omega who was out of line.'

Nasty cracking and popping gets our attention. The brindle fur is replaced with caramel flesh and hazel eyes. After shifting for the first time in nearly fifteen years, his first instinct is to comfort his frazzled mate. Her scent and aura is all over the place. I watch him make a small movement to get closer to her, but Axel corrects himself when he sees the mark on her next, a fresh one over an older one.

Axel completely steps back now, lining himself up next to me. I hand him the shorts. Within this confined space, he could have easily taken me over in sheer strength to get to his mate. The woman who rejected him for power. But the double marking on her neck solidified what I told him. This woman is a wretched piece of shit and needed to pay for her sins.

The silence of the cell is loud.

'No one knew about you.' Audry is the first to break it. Her voice is small. She moves her hands from her slowly deflating stomach. The rogue is staring holes through her. Shuffling her feet, she makes an attempt to move forward. She is not stupid. She knows the mate bond would also work in her favor, but what she doesn't know is I am a step ahead of her.

Her voice is soft, something you would use on a hurt child, as tears form in her eyes. Real ones, I notice. 'I wanted to protect you.'

His hazel eyes move from the spot just above her head to her eyes. He can see the color change, her wolf trying to come out, trying to reach his. I take a sidestep closer to the inner cell wall, touching his scarred shoulder. A possessive growl comes from the woman.

'You will not be reinstated,' I say, completely ignoring the sniveling woman. 'But you were on your way to becoming a brilliant warrior, Axel. I'm sure you will be able to find a pack to take you in.'

My eyes move to the alpha and audience at the cell bars. The rogue says nothing, but I can see the thoughts in his head. He wants one answer. He knows, but he wants to the why from her lips.

I move my hand off his shoulder, after letting it linger for another growl to shake through her. Before I can say anything to rebuttal her behavior, Axel's deep voice fills the air. 'You no longer have a right to me.'

The words are very cold. His own eyes partially change colors as his wolf comes forward. I place another calm hand on his shoulder.

'You are MINE!' she screams and moves to strike me, trying to stop me from continuing to touch him. He blocks her from this, using a muscled arm to push her back. She hits the cot on the back of her legs and plops back. She looks up at Axel with hurt in her eyes.

'You have no claim to me,' he repeats and stays strong. I can feel him shaking and pass soothing energies through him. 'I do not need to explain,' he begins a little loud, for the audience's benefit, 'how a rejection works, Audry. You know this very well..'

She looks up with tears in her eyes. 'I didn't want to do it..' She gasps. 'My mother.. my mother wanted me to.. You were a low status wolf.. She just wanted..'

He shook his head and looked down at her crying form. With a heavy sigh, he gives me a sideways glance, and I pat his shoulder in comfort. 'I, Axel Xavier Floyd, a rogue of the former Forest Bend Pack..'

'NONONONO!' she yells, attempting to sit up quickly. 'You DO NOT FINISH THAT! DO NOT!'

'Accept the rejection of Audry Ava-Marie Wells, beta of former Forest Bend pack,' he completes the acceptation.

She screams out in pain, her body thrashing around. 'I will KILL you,' she hollers out as she clutches her chest.

I tilt my head from side to side; then look at Axel. His coloring is better. The black bags under his eyes are changing color. Even his mood is lifted. I remove my hand from his shoulder.

'You are free, Axel. No longer a prisoner of contractual cause.'

Audry is panting how. Axel was the last of the bindings the old witch and her mother issued. Plus, having a bond be unaccepted for so long and then it gets accepted, the rejecter gets all of the force of the bond breaking. We watch her writhe in pain. The sadistic part of me, the deep seeded revenge part of me, enjoys the show as muttering of voices of her pack warriors murmur in the background.

'Is it true?' he asks in a small voice. Shocked, I didn't know he, as large of a man he was, could make such a sound.

'Of course,' I chuckle and give him an encouraging wink. 'Ask the alpha if there is such a wolf here.'
