That brief time alone passed like a second. While I was stirring the delicious soup we had prepared, I thought about everything that tormented me. I had finally managed to recognize my feelings, my love for that woman, and what use would it be? She already said it: absolutely useless. I felt bad, sad, helpless, but there was still some hope, some more time. I began to wonder if I really wanted to continue that relationship. I would only suffer more by leaving. It would only cause me more pain.

"Now I'm going town to buy some things..." Mr.Tweedy mentioned, breaking the usual silence of meals. "Do you need me to send you a letter? You haven't asked me for it in a while."

I shook my head in shame.

"No, it's not necessary, thank you," I said kindly, blowing on the spoon so that soup would stop burning like hell.

Melisha looked at me with a discreet smile. At first I didn't know what it meant, it dawned on me then. Willard was leaving the house for a few hours. That was perfect, wonderful, wasn't it? Was it not another proof of destiny? Emily, take a few hours alone so you can realize how much you love that woman.

The feeling I had when I saw Mr.Tweedy leaving was relaxing, I felt relieved, free. We had all afternoon and I had a lot of things I wanted to do.

"Well, we're alone now, brat," Melisha whispered to me, attacking my waist and whispering in my ear.

"Yes..." I sighed, gripping the hands around hers, letting myself be swayed gently. "What do you want to do?"

"Well, maybe we can..." She smiled into my neck, kissing it sensually. I felt a chill, but I was strong, I didn't let myself be fooled.

"Eh, that's not what I mean," I said, slipping away from her irresistible grip. She looked at me amused, her eyes shining with desire. "We could do something special..." I sighed, thinking of a good plan.

"More special than...?" She asked, being silenced by my hand and a furious look.

"Don't say it," I said embarrassed, making an evil laugh bounce off my hand.

"Are you shy now?" She asked provocatively, grabbing my hand and pulling it closer to her body.

"No," I said, moving away as much as I could. "Well... Maybe later we could..." I said, noticing how my defences fell with that malicious look and those soft caresses on my back. "But not now, I'd like to do something different, like, like take a walk to the lake."

Suddenly, a horrible clap of thunder sounded behind me, followed by a thin layer of water that began to fall from the sky. My face was comical. I slumped my shoulders, sighing, defeated.

"It doesn't seem like the weather is very good for a walk..." Melisha hissed ironically.

I closed the door, bumping my shoulder into her body as I passed. I really wanted that walk.

"Okay, let's do something," I said, turning at the door to the living room. "First we do something I want and then something you want."

She looked at me with raised eyebrows, but she gave a tender smile, nodding slightly.

"Okay," she said, entering the small living room. "What have you decided to do now, brat?"

I ignored that damn nickname and glanced around the room. Actually, she had left me blank. I wanted to do many things and at that moment I couldn't think of any. My eyes stopped at the book that was resting on the table.

"Well, I'm about to finish the book..." I muttered thoughtfully. She looked at me confused, obviously.

"Is that what you want to do? Read? You do that every day," she protested, as it could not be otherwise.
