"I... I hope you're lucky," Daisy said the next morning, watching how little by little we were moving away from her farm.

Melisha walked slowly, leaning on a crutch and on my shoulder.

I nodded gratefully, making it clear that I was never going to forget that kind gesture.

"Thank you for everything, Daisy," I said, smiling tenderly, turning around and starting to walk towards the unknown.

We walked in silence, with a lot of questions that still had no answers. We had left that house, but we had no destination. I began to regret leaving so soon.

"Well..." Melisha whispered, grunting every time she walked because of her injured leg. "What's your plan, brat?"

I huffed at that impatience, holding her a little more roughly.

"I don't know..." I said sighing, looking at the horizon, at that bunch of roads that were waiting for us impatiently. "I guess we can go to town and take a train."

"A train? Where to?" The woman asked with some irony. I couldn't blame her, she was as lost as I was.

"I already told you that I don't know," I said, moving to the side of the road, leaning on a stone wall. "You could think of something too..."

My little reproach only served to make the pained smile on her face widen mockingly. She probably didn't like it, but at least she didn't seem to be as scared as I was.

"My whole body hurts, brat, I can't think clearly," she said, leaning next to me.

"Of course..." I said, raising her eyebrows.

I was really worried about what the future held for me. I felt the horrible urge to regret everything, but it went away when I saw her smile. No, I couldn't go back now, not after everything that had happened.

"Calm down..." Melisha sighed, also looking at the horizon, hissing in pain every time she moved her leg. I looked at her with wide eyes.

"Can I calm down?" I asked a little nervous. "We have nowhere to go, we have nothing."

"Wow, it seems that you are beginning to understand me," she said with irony, as a subtle revenge.

I had no desire to bear a reproach. The situation was very delicate and fear made me tremble. Without a second thought, my hand went to the bandage on her leg, causing her to scream in pain and look at me with furious eyes.

"Ah! Hey, stop!"

"Shut up," I said. "I'm trying to think. I don't have time for your ironies.

After those words, I tried to relax my breathing, looking for a solution that I still couldn't find.

"Okay... I can, I can look for a phone booth and call my parents. Maybe they will help us."

"Oh, sure," Melisha said, amused. "Hello mom, I'm going to run away with my lover, you know, the wife of the farmer who gave me food, but I don't have a penny and I need the money to leave forever and never come back," she said with mockery and a voice that made me very nervous.

"Do you have a better idea?" I asked furiously, knowing that even in those circumstances she was right.

As expected, she didn't respond, just looked away from me.

"Accept it, brat. We don't have a plan," she whispered, with more regret than mockery in her words.

I looked at her, noticing how my eyes filled with tears.
