When I got back to the house, I saw Oscar sitting out on the front porch, waiting. He looked up as he heard me approaching, and I took out my AirPods. "Hi..." His voice was low, and I thought I heard it almost break. I take a deep breath and sit down beside him on the steps of the porch. I didn't say a thing, I didn't know what to do, so I just sat there, beside him, and looked ahead. "About earlier..." He then spoke up, and this time it was clear to me that he had been crying. His voice was weak, and when I looked closer at his face, I could tell his eyes were red as well. "I'm sorry," I said before he continued. He looked at me with a puzzled look and shook his head. "No, don't be. I am! I'm sorry, Con, I shouldn't have left just like that," He spoke with so much sincerity, and I just wanted to give him the biggest hug in the world.
I didn't know what to say. I didn't want to make him feel worse, but I also didn't want to lie and say that it hadn't slightly hurt me when he did. "I know what you're thinking..." He spoke up after a minute of silence. I looked back at him, knitting my eyebrows together, "What am I thinking?" I asked and noticed how his eyes flickered from my eyes, down to my lips, and back up again. "That I didn't want to kiss you," He said, and I felt my stomach drop. I keep quiet, completely captured by his stares. "It's not true, you should know that," He spoke up again, and I couldn't help but sigh. "Then why didn't you?" I slipped and asked ironically, almost with a roll of my eyes when I broke the stare we were exchanging. But before I could pull my face too far away, I felt his hand gently on my face, bringing me back to where I was before, and before I knew it, I felt his warm lips on top of mine.
I felt almost like my heart flipped inside me, my eyes immediately closing while taking it all in. His lips felt soft and warm on mine, and they moved slowly, almost like he was trying to make it last longer. It was sweet. Perfect. After just the right amount of time, he pulled away again, but I felt his face linger close to mine, and when I opened my eyes again, he was already looking at me with soft, loving eyes. "I didn't want to rush you, or for it to be a heat-of-the-moment thing... I didn't want you to regret it later..." He whispered, his nose brushing against mine in the process. I couldn't help but smile at his words and felt myself lean in to place a peck on his lips. "I couldn't possibly regret this," I admitted, and now he was the one to smile. The moment was sweet and I guess long-awaited in some way. We had been through a lot, but finally, we were both on the same page, at the same time.
After a while of enjoying each other's company, I broke the silence, "I should get in and grab a shower," I spoke up, and he nodded, "Yeah, you stink," He joked, making me laugh and playfully hit his arm before getting up. "Dumbass," I mumbled on the way in and heard him laugh as he followed right after me. When we entered the house, we were met by not only Logan but also Oscar's mom and dad. They were all looking at us with sly smiles, probably having a good idea of what had just happened on the other side of that door just before. I avoided eye contact and immediately went upstairs, full of embarrassment, hearing a "Finally, mate," come from Logan at the bottom of the stairs, followed by small chatter and giggles from Oscar's parents.
After my shower, I went back to my room, and both Logan and Oscar were sitting inside, waiting for me. I put my gym clothes in my dirty clothes bag and packed them down in my suitcase, which was almost fully packed. After doing so I sat down on the floor and put a pout on my face while looking over at the two boys on my bed. "What's with the face?" Logan asked with a soft laugh and I took a deep breath, letting out a sigh. "I don't want to go home already," I admitted, which made both of them smile and look at each other. "Me neither, Con, but we both have to go home and get ready for the season," Logan then responded, before getting up from the bed and joining me on the floor. Oscar followed shortly after, and we were then sat in a small circle on the floor.
"How are you feeling about going home alone? Will you be alright?" Oscar asked carefully, and I smiled at him sweetly. "I'll be alright, yes. I'll be training a lot either way, so I'll have plenty of other things to think about," I explained and he nodded, still seeming sceptical. "I can go with you, you know? I don't mind," He then offered, and I couldn't help but chuckle while placing my hand on his knee. "Osc, you've already spent your whole break on me and my problems, please, take a rest, okay? I'll be okay, I promise," I said in a slightly teasing manner, not wanting the vibe to become too serious. "It's not like it's a burden to me, Con, you know that," He responded, and I felt my heart melt. "I know, I know, but still. You should stay here, let your parents have you by yourself for a bit," I smiled and he sighed, knowing I wouldn't budge.
"What should we do for our last night?" Logan asked, and we all thought about it for a while. "We could go out?" Oscar suggested, but was immediately shut down by Logan, "No way! I'm not gonna travel with a hungover," He protested, and both me and Oscar laughed. "Night in, then?" I suggested, and they both seemed okay with that. "We can do a movie marathon, stay up all night!" Logan said excitedly, and I looked at him confused. "So you don't want to travel with a hungover, but without any sleep is fine?" Oscar asked him, almost reading my mind. "Well, I can just sleep on the plane," He argued, and we both just shrugged, not quite understanding his logic.
"Alright, so what movies are we thinking?" I asked, changing the subject a little. "We could always do Harry Potter again?" Oscar suggested, referring to the last time we had a movie marathon years ago. "Noooo, mate, not again!" Logan whined, and I chuckled at the two arguing again. "What do you suggest then?" Oscar argued back, and Logan thought for a while, "How about a horror movie marathon?" He then responded, looking at me teasingly, and I instantly began shaking my head. "Nope, not happening," I responded calmly, earning a laugh from both of them. "How about Marvel then?" Oscar asked, and both me and Logan seemed to like the idea, so that was what we went with.
To get ready for the night though, we had to go out and buy a whole lot of snacks, so we all went out right away and drove to the nearest supermarket. We had a lot of fun, fooling around inside the store when suddenly, a group of young adults came up to us. I would think that they were just around our age, and they were a mix of both guys and girls, 5 in total. The guy in front approached us as we were trying to pick out some candy, "Hey, sorry to bother you, but can we take a picture with you guys?" He said with a thick Aussie accent. We all looked at each other, and nodded, agreeing to take a few pictures with them, "Yeah, of course, just a group picture, or?" Oscar led the conversation. "Yes! Can we also get selfies with all three of you? We're big F1 fans!" One of the girls spoke up excitedly. "Sure, of course," Oscar said and we proceeded to take a bunch of pictures with them all, both group and individual pictures and selfies.
"So, who are you guys supporting then, you can't say all three," I asked as we were done with the photos, and they all looked really happy. "We actually support different teams, I personally prefer Ferrari," One of the boys spoke up, and all three of us pulled a face, which made them all laugh until the other boy spoke up, "I'm a Red Bull fan though!" He said and winked at me, which made me chuckle and I gave him a thumbs up. "Me too!" A girl added and I made a heart sign with my hands in response while saying "Thank you!"
"I'm all about you Logan, I don't care about teams," A second girl said, which made Logan visibly blush, making both me and Oscar laugh a little. "Andddddd I'm a McLaren fan, of course," The last girl said, and Oscar smiled widely. "We appreciate it guys, really, thank you!" He said and both me and Logan nodded in agreement. "Yeah, have a great night, guys!" Logan added and we all said our goodbyes as they left towards the register. Afterwards, we all looked at each other almost in disbelief and laughed out loud as we all processed what had just happened.
When we had gotten back home we all gathered in Oscar's room, bringing all the pillows and blankets we could find, as well as all the snacks and drinks we had bought. We made it all cosy and comfortable for ourselves and then began watching one Marvel movie after the other. The whole time I had Oscar's arm either around me or his hand on my thigh or intertwined with my own. He was more touchy than usual, so I could tell he had held back all this time for my sake, which I found really sweet. All three of us stayed up all night, having lots of fun on our last day together in Australia.
