{11: the return}

Late that night, Aurora lay nestled in her bed, her dreams danced on the edges of her consciousness as she drifted into a peaceful slumber. But her tranquility was shattered by a sudden noise downstairs, echoing through the silent house. Aurora's eyes snapped open, her senses instantly alert. Since the full moon was right around the corner, her senses her heightened.
With cautious steps, she slipped out of bed, her bare feet padding soundlessly across the cool wooden floor. As she reached the bottom of the stairs, Aurora's heart pounded in her chest. She could hear the faint sound of movement coming from the kitchen. With a mixture of trepidation and curiosity, she edged closer, her breath caught in her throat. In the dim light, she saw the figure of a woman crouched on the floor, cleaning up broken glass. Relief flooded through Aurora as she recognized Lydia's mother, Natalie Martin. But her relief turned to confusion when she saw another figure standing beside her.

"Is everything okay?" Aurora's tired voice asked with concern, breaking the silence of the night. The two women turned to face her, their expressions a mixture of surprise and anticipation. Aurora's eyes locked onto the redhead whose presence sent a shockwave of disbelief through Aurora's veins. "Jenna?" Her voice was barely a whisper, choked with emotion. The woman smiled, her eyes filled with warmth and love.
"Hello, sweetheart," Jenna said softly making Aurora's legs feel weak beneath her as she stumbled forward, her heart pounding in her chest. Tears welled in her eyes as she wrapped her arms around her Aunt, holding her tightly as if afraid she might vanish into thin air.

"I can't believe it's you," Aurora whispered, her voice trembling with emotion. "Where have you been?"
"It's a long story, Rory," Jenna murmured, her voice thick with emotion. "But I'm here now, and that's all that matters."

Their moment was interrupted by Lydia descending down the stairs with a mix of annoyance and curiosity as she rubbed her eyes. As she reached the bottom of the stairs, her irritation evaporated into surprise. Confusion danced in Lydia's eyes as she approached, her sleepiness giving way to bewilderment.

"Jenna! What are you doing here?" Lydia exclaimed, her voice a mix of shock and joy. Jenna turned, her face lit up with a warm smile at the sight of her niece as the two hugged.
"I've just come to visit, sweetie. No need to worry," Jenna reassured her as she pulled apart she exchanged a meaningful glance with Natalie, her best friend and Aurora's aunt, a silent understanding passed between them. Natalie's expression softened as she turned to Lydia, her voice carrying a mixture of firmness and empathy.

"Lydia, you should head back to bed now. You'll have plenty of time to talk tomorrow after school," Natalie instructed, her tone leaving no room for argument. Lydia hesitated, torn between her desire for reuniting with Jenna and the weight of her mother's gaze. But with a resigned sigh, she nodded, offering Jenna a small smile before obediently retreating upstairs. Natalie followed closely behind, leaving Jenna and Aurora alone in the kitchen, their thoughts swirling in the silence that lingered between them.
