"Are you sharing?"
Owen had just gotten up for the morning and had gotten Ryan some breakfast, thankfully managing to distract him with a cartoon in Amelia's bedroom while he made himself something. Amelia had asked for a cup of coffee only but now she seemed more interested in his eggs and bacon.
"It's actually for you," he stretched the truth, smiling politely as he entered the bathroom. Her head poked out from the shower curtain, and she opened her mouth expectantly. Rolling his eyes, he scooped some of the scrambled egg and fed it to her. Whilst he was distracted smiling at her adorable face, she managed to swipe a slice of bacon from off his plate. "Hey!" He sighed as she winked at him, knowing he would let her get away with it.
"I have a surgery this morning," she said as she resumed showering. He tried to peek at her, but she noticed and closed the shower curtain. "Focus!"
"Is it important?" he surrendered as he picked up another slice of bacon.
"It's the one with Alex and the kid. Very important." He couldn't remember when she had asked to have the surgery scheduled, or what patient she was even talking about.
"Oh well my day is going to be important too," he replied sarcastically, to which she smiled and rolled her eyes, unbeknownst to him.
"What important thing do you have?" she played along. She stuck her head out again and he fed her another spoonful of eggs. He didn't know Amelia to like eggs, she never expressed interest in it as a breakfast item before. Perhaps his cooking was that good. It wasn't like she was able to make anything else other than waffles and pancakes, anyways. And that one steak she tried to cook for his birthday that ended up being as rubbery as a tyre.
"I have to avoid a medical malpractice lawsuit," he said in a less than enthusiastic tone.
"Okay, yeah I'd say that trumps that," she agreed, looking at him, "Are you worried?"
"Not really, I think it'll be okay," he mindlessly said, adding, "I'm more worried about my therapy session later. It's my last one." It had been a couple of months since Nathan had come to Seattle. A couple months since his last episode, which left both Amelia and Ryan terrified, and also led to them breaking up. It had been a couple months since they'd agreed to try to work things out, despite his PTSD, after their small rekindling at the conference in July. It had been a couple of months since anything bad had happened to their relationship, and he hoped to god it was for a reason.
"What are you worried about?" He agreed to the therapy because he didn't want to lose her or Ryan, and he had lost many people he'd cared about, over the years, due to his PTSD and uncontrollable outbursts. He didn't want to lose any more people, and he cared about Amelia, more than he could explain. He loved her.
"I'm not sure, I guess I'm worried that it's not enough and I need more help." He handed her a towel as she turned off the shower and came out.
"Well, I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it," she said as she walked to the bathroom vanity. He followed her and stood behind her as he observed her morning face routine.
"I guess so," he agreed. Amelia had all of these weird creams for her faces, he barely knew what half of them were even for; she looked perfect to him with or without it. And then there was that weird face mask she made him wear that one time she tried to pamper him, what was even the point of it?
After a moment of thought, he asked, "Hey, what surgery were you talking about with Karev? I don't think I saw it on the schedule..."
"I was meaning to talk to you about that, amidst all the publishing drama," she hummed as she massaged the last of the cream into her face. She turned around and smiled up at him, and he could tell by the mischievous look in her eyes that she was going to ask for something she shouldn't. "I forgot to ask sooner, and then Bailey took the spot for OR 2, and Alex tried but..." She placed her palms on his chest and, for dramatic effect, tucked her chin and looked up at him from under her eyelids, pretending to innocently gaze at him. Owen looked down at her manipulative gaze, forgetting about the plate in his hand, almost frozen as he stared into her eyes. "I don't know, I'd hate to ask..."
