The Night and Sky Collide (Partly Quinter)

Chapter 5: The Kingdom of sand

Hot desert air hit their scales. The Sun was shining, the heat was almost unbearable. I hope we find an oasis soon. Stargazer thought, as she and the band of dragons she was with, flew closer and closer to Queen Thorn's stronghold. "Ah, I missed the desert." Qibli said as he did a quick spin in the air. Stargazer caught a glimpse of Winter rolling his eyes at Qibli's statement. "Yeah, yeah, Sand snorter." Winter replied. Qibli chuckled and looked happy to be back in the desert. As much of a grouchy dragon Stargazer knew Winter was, he was rather.... Calm and more cheerful recently. I wonder why Winter's so calm... I guess I'll just ask him later. Stargazer thought. She didn't really think much of it. "Not trying to be annoying but, HOW MUCH LONGER? HEAT MESSES WITH MY MOOD AND NOT IN A GOOD WAY!" Skyfire complained . "Uhm... There should be an oasis nearby." Qibli said. They flew for a few more minutes until Qibli dived towards an oasis.

"FINALLY! THE OASIS!" Skyfire cried in relief. She followed Qibli, diving towards the oasis. Winter and Stargazer mimicked the action. While Winter landed carefully on the side of the oasis, Qibli, Stargazer and Skyfire plunged into the oasis, the cool water splashing over the Icewing prince. "Hey, watch it!" Winter yelled as he shook off the water from his scales. Stargazer rose up from the water first, laughing with glee. "How can you not enjoy this cool, refreshing water?" She asked him, before diving back down into the shimmering water of the oasis. Winter growled and shook more water droplets of his cold, shiny scales. Qibli's head rose up from the water. He turned to Winter and said: "Stop moping over there, and get in the water!" he insisted. Winter seemed... Hesitant? I wonder why. Winter sighed and slowly got into the water.

The more Winter got into the water, the more relaxed he seemed to be getting. The glistening water cleaned off the sand from Winter's scales, and he basically became Mr. Sparkles. "Don't be such a slowpoke!" Qibli said, before he used his tail to splash more water onto Winter. The Icewing scowled at him and, in turn, used his own tail to splash Qibli's face with water.

As Qibli gasped for air, Winter laughed his head off. Soon enough, Qibli started laughing too. "What was that for, Snow sniffer?" Qibli asked cheerfully, as he swam up next to Winter. The prince's laughter died down quickly, and then made a straight face while replying to Qibli. "Just some sweet revenge. You must be familiar with it." Winter joked. Wow. Winter making a joke. Now you don't see that every day. Stargazer thought as she watched the Sandwing and Icewing make some small talk. Skyfire swam towards the surface, and made a surprise 'attack' on Stargazer. "Boo!" "Ack-!" Stargazer fell backwards into the water, sending it everywhere. As she swam up again, Qibli, Winter and Skyfire were laughing like maniacs. After a minute, the Nightwing started laughing too.

"I am so getting my revenge for that!" Stargazer said after she stopped laughing. Skyfire continued her laughter. Then suddenly, an idea popped up into Stargazer's head. She dove beneath the water, swam over to Skyfire, and then got a tight grip onto her tail. Before the copper Skywing could do anything, Stargazer swiftly tugged on her tail, and dragged her under the sparkling water. Skyfire went up in a cloud of bubbles. As the two dragonets rose back up to the surface, they could hear Winter and Qibli laughing. "Well, are you happy you got your revenge?" Qibli asked Stargazer. She nodded. The Sun dropped low into the sky by now. "Soo are we gonna camp out here, or continue flying?" Skyfire asked them. Winter didn't really care, Qibli thinks they should camp out so they have energy for a next day's flight, and Stargazer doesn't mind either way.

"How about we camp out here then?" Skyfire suggested. Qibli nodded, Stargazer shrugged then nodded and Winter just scowled and rolled his eyes. "Alrighty then! Camping it is!" Stargazer announced. Winter crawled out of the water, and shook excess water off his scales. Stargazer had to drag Skyfire out of the water. "I want to stay in the waterrrrrr-!" Skyfire complained, before she landed face first into the sand. "You're not drowning by sleeping in water." Stargazer argued. She helped Skyfire sit up and get the sand off her face. Qibli climbed out of the water, and sat next to Winter. The Icewing prince didn't seem to care, so he twitched a little closer to him. Stargazer and Skyfire eventually came up next to the Icewing and Sandwing, and sat down with them.

It was a beautiful, cloudless night tonight. Two of the moons were full, and the stars shone brightly. "It's such a beautiful night." Qibli said, not realizing he was starting to lean against Winter. Stargazer nodded, a small smile forming on her face. "The stars look..." She trailed off. "Amazing?" Skyfire finished. The Nightwing nodded, and turned her head upwards to gaze at the stars. She heard Qibli chuckle softly behind her. "What?" She asked, turning her head slightly to look at the Sandwing, dead in the eye. "Nothing. It's just that you like stargazing and your name is Stargazer." Qibli replied. Skyfire let out a small laugh. "Well, I wasn't called Stargazer for nothing!" She said, smiling. Qibli chuckled at the Nightwing's joke.

"We should probably sleep now." Winter said abruptly. Qibli and Skyfire nodded. "Aw. Okay." Stargazer sighed. She wanted to stay up a bit longer, but decided to rest. She needed the energy to continue flying to the Stronghold. Winter layed down on the warm desert sand. It was actually pretty comforting. Before Stargazer lied down, she saw Winter and Qibli snuggle up REALLY close to each other. Hmm... Suspicious. Stargazer thought as she lay down next to Skyfire, who seemed to struggle falling asleep. "You okay?" She muttered to the Skywing. Skyfire nodded, her head still turned away from her. I just can't sleep. Skyfire's mind rang over and over again. Stargazer sighed, and lay down on her back. Today was... Eventful. Kidnapping, escaping, new friends, all sorts of drama. But... Everything happens for a reason... Right?...
