In Love
The faint sound of ringing had begun. I reached out of the warm covers of my comfort zone; blindly opened my bedside draw- stuffed with a thick layer of pillows, grabbed the cool metal surface and threw it lazily against my cream coloured wall. Ahh. Silence again. My hand retreated and I was able to relax back into the deep realm of my bed. Just as I started to drift off though another, different alarm begun and I reached under one of the many pillows positioned on my bed and quickly turned the clock’s alarm off. I breathed a sigh of relief and sunk back down into my mattress, a satisfied smile on my face.
BLRRINNNGGGG.
‘WHAT THE...?!!’ I yelled in anger, leaping onto my bed brandishing a lumpy pillow and spiky bed hair poised with my most menacing face.
‘Morning Aimee!’ My roommate and best friend Janie walked in holding a tea tray positioned with my breakfast. ‘I thought you might need to be extra alert for today seeing as it’s your interview’. She smiled and I collapsed into a heap on the war stricken bed.
‘Interview? Janie I completely forgot! What am I going to do?’ I buried my head in the lumpy pillow.
‘Come on Aims! You’ll be great, I know it! Journalism’s in your blood.’ She smiled reassuringly and patted my back.
‘Hmm,’ I sighed and looked eagerly at the breakfast Janie had prepared. ‘FRENCH TOAST!’ I leaped up to a sitting position and grabbed wildly towards it, thrusting it into my mouth.
‘Calm down Aims! You don’t want to get indigestion!’
On the tube my tummy started to ache and I remembered what Janie had said. This is not fair! It’s not like it’s karma or anything, what have I done wrong? Okay, it’s fine, just keep breathing, slowly, calm. Ahhh. I smiled, pleased with myself. See I didn’t have indigestion.
On the way to Harlington Magazines I stopped in a cafe to pick up a coffee and make myself even more alert. I checked my messages on my laptop too because in Coffee House they have free Wi-Fi. I had messages! A feeling of relief and happiness flowed through me. It’s always good to receive messages when you’re stressed.
Lola- skip
Tom- read
Liam- read
Mum- SKIP
Ahh, and finally Ben. Okay, so I read all the messages from men first... that’s not a crime is it? I mean, I need to know when they want the next date to be!
So first, Tom:
Hey Aimee,
I had a great time last night, do you think we could do it again... say next Tuesday? Ring me. ;)
Tom
Oh my GOD! He put a wink face! A WINK face! Ahh I’m falling rapidly in love! No. Don’t fall into the trap. Reply calmly and...Serenely.
Hi Tom,
I had a lot of fun last night too, and would love....
-No I can’t put that...
And will check my diary to see if I’m free.
Aimee
I feel quite good about that. It’s obvious that I could possibly have a better thing to do (which is a lie of course). Okay. Onto the next!
Liam:
Aimee darling,
I cannot keep myself from thinking about the night we spent together, I must see you again. Name the date. I’ll be free.
