After asking his brother Eliab about where he was, you eventually found him under the tree where he usually stays. It has been a while since you two have talked, knowing that he was a bit busy attending to his flock. He had a lyre at hand while the setting sun bounced off of his face. Your heart raced, being a little nervous to approach him. You stepped closer inch by inch, trying not to disturb him. "David!" You called out. Trying to get his attention.
Being his friend, you'd expect him to respond quickly. But, with the time that you've spent apart from each other, reuniting may be a bit difficult due to his responsibilities as Shepard. You still didn't give up and tried to approach him slowly, going up the hill he was on, eventually making it to the tree. You lifted the branches up, revealing his face. You felt your face heating up, not wanting to embarrass yourself. He has really changed since the last time you saw him, being that you two were all grown up now.
He was too focused on his lyre, playing a soft tune as we speak, as a lamb slept beside him. But you tried to get his attention again. "Hey, David?" You tapped his shoulder. He perked up, as the lamb ran away. David looked around for a moment, then fixating his gaze on you. A smile was bound on his face, and his eyes lit up. He was ecstatic to see you again. He called out your name,
"Ah, there you are! I was starting to wonder where you had wandered off to. It's been far too long since we last spoke, dear friend." David sets his lyre down gently, standing up to give you a warm hug. His hands linger on your shoulders as he looks you over, taking in the sight of your growth and changes.
As his hands lightly grazed on your shoulders, you were hit with adrenaline. It felt surreal having to see him again, knowing that he had become more good looking over time since you two met. You two eventually caught eyes and you let out a coy chuckle. "It has, a few years even." You abruptly stopped as you took notice of him once again. Your eyes shifted away slightly, your cheeks turning a bit pink.
David's gaze follows your eyes as they shy away from his, and he notices your cheeks turning pink. He chuckles softly, finding your reaction endearing. "Looks like God's called us to come together again. I see time has only made you more bashful," he says, still smiling. He releases his grip on your shoulders, taking a step back.
"Maybe it has." You cleared your throat, not wanting to make it seem obvious. "So, how have you been? Working on a new song, I see?" You then sat beside him, moving closer, but not too close. Maybe close enough for both of your knuckles to brush up against each other. You lifted your hand and sighed off to the side.
David nods, his eyes sparkling with excitement as he talks about his music. "Yes, I have been working on a new song. It's a bit different from what I usually play, but I think you'll like it." He picks up his lyre again, strumming a few chords.
"You never change, do you. You were always excited about music when we were younger." You giggled as his eyes turned to look at you. "And I still am. You know I always give an extra effort to praise our Lord." David smiled and looked back at his lyre. You couldn't help but smile back knowing that grin of his was quite infectious.
You subtly glanced at him, beginning to admire him. You looked from the top down, observing how his eyes lit up, and his hair had leaves in it from the tree above. He looked perfect. But then he caught your gaze, to which you quickly turned away, your face heating up and your heart beat fast. He let out a chuckle saying,
"It seems like I catch you staring at me. Is there something on my face?" He reaches up to touch his face, a playful smile on his lips. You shake your head, still feeling your cheeks burn. "N-no, nothing at all. I was just admiring the view."
You tried so hard to hide it, even struggling to regulate your breathing. You can't believe your feelings for him have become more apparent over the years.
