My parents decided to step down from the counsel today to focus on my dad's health he seems to be getting forgetful the people of Aukai do not trust him to make decisions. We don't just appoint new counsel members, we vote. My parents nominated Emma and I to take their spot. Ronny and Kourtney were elected as well along with 5 other younger couples in our age group. They are hoping that with the election of younger people the younger generation of Aukai will be more likely to come to us with issues.
We had a 15 year old girl go missing a few months ago and no one seems to know anything. The youth won't speak if they know. The girl was an orphan her parents died last year the cause of death is unknown, she found them both dead in their bed in the morning. Her name is/was Lucy. The counsel members have searched everywhere for this girl and they have not found a trace of her-anywhere. Poor gone without a trace. There is no where for any of us to go, there isn't a way off this station and there is nothing but ocean surrounding us. You can't see land on any side of the structure, there is nothing but water. If you were to swim you would drown. It is mandatory for all youth to take swimming lessons in case someone were to fall off the deck while on duty but that is the extant to any of our swimming knowledge.
Emma and I step up to the front of our cafeteria, all of Aukai is here to listen to our speech of why they should elect us to be members of the counsel. Emma and I did not rehearse what to say, we don't want to be part of the counsel. We are simply doing what is asked of us.
We turn and face the people of Aukai, Emma's hand is trembling terribly, I grab is and squeeze tight. "People of Aukai" I start "Emma and I are here to say that we appreciate the confidence you have in us to lead you and thank you for the nomination. If we are elected we promise to do right by the people of Aukai. We will lead you into the future with the best of our knowledge and ability. Again we thank you." Emma gives a quick smile and thank you waving to the crowd. We take our seats new to my parents. The cafeteria is cramped, and smells of sweat. Kourtney and Ronny are up next, he is paler than his normal-which is already very pale. My dad turns to me and whispers "good job son but you should have said more." I roll my eyes "dad you know I don't want to lead the people I am only doing this for you and mom." I can see the hurt in his eyes. He has always wanted me to sit on the counsel like my mother and him but I have never wanted that. People start clapping around us as Kourtney and Ronny head back to their seat, we clap too. My father doesn't say a word to me the rest of the time we are here listening to everyone give their speech. The nominees are told to go back to our courters while the voting takes place. Emma and I descend the long hall way and enter my room. We sit close together on the small couch of my apartment. We have an old deck of cards we play games that our parents have taught us with. They are very very worn and the numbers are barely visible anymore but we continue to play them. I shuffle and Emma deals them out. "Ace, if we get elected that means we have to move in together in the counsel suite, are you ready for that?" Emma asks shyly. "We stay with each other most of the time anyways so I am ready, are you?" She flashes me a bright white smile and says "Yes of course I am!" I giggle, "I say if we are elected or not we just move in together, what are we waiting for?" She nods her head in agreement and pulls me in for a slow sweet kiss making my heart race. We kiss each other passionately, when things start to get heated we hear a knock on the door pulling us out of the bliss.
