They say we can't leave

Chapter six

Emma and I take our spots at the head of the cafeteria with all the other candidates, Suzy holds up a slip of paper and clears her throat. "It was a very very close run but I am happy to announce that Emma and Ace have been elected to be your new counsel members!" Everyone in the room claps. Emma and I wave and say thank you. After rounds of hand shakes and congratulations the room clears out leaving us with the other counsel members, my parents as well so we can discuss the change over.

Suzy speaks first "Welcome to the counsel Emma and Ace we are so pleased to have you. I hope you will transition well. You will not be doing your normal daily jobs anymore you will have to round each job like us, and Ace you'll have to switch apartments with your parents but other then that there isn't much of a change right now. You will learn as things come. Do you guys have any questions?"

Emma and I look at each other and I speak "Yes I do actually, now that we are part of the counsel are we allowed to know what's in the fifth level?" All the counsel members look at each other. "No one knows, not even us. The only ones that ever knew, were Emma's parents. They were the only ones who had access to it, since they passed no one has been down there." My mom says sheepishly. Emma's eyes grow wide "why would my parents be the ones to know that?"

"Your parents helped build the Aukai, didn't they tell you?" My dad asks. "No, never." Emma says shyly. "Well your parents were part of the team that built Aukai. They were the only 2 that lived here that had access to the fifth level they were brought on board to monitor whatever is down there but like I said no one has accessed it since and they would not tell us what was down there." Emma stares at my dad in shock as he speaks. I hold her shaking hand. "I can't believe they never told me" she says sadly. The counsel men shrug it off. "Anyway you guys are dismissed if you have any questions find one of us. Go ahead and start swapping apartments with your parents, Emma you can just clean yours out, one of the youth will move in." Scott, Suzy's husband states.

Emma and I are walking back to my apartment to pack. She is looking around the hallways and speaks "Ace what the hell is going on? What do you think is down there that my parents could have been taking care of and why can't anyone go down there? Do you think that's what Suzy and that mysterious person were arguing about in the farm the other night?" Emma says all of this in one breath talking anxiously. I put my arm around her as we walk "I am not sure but we will figure it out. I will try and talk to my parents alone when I can. Everything will be okay, we have each other." I say with a soft smile we reach my room and I pull her in for a long embrace. When she pulls away seemingly satisfied and less anxious we get to work on moving all of our belongings.
