The screaming is so loud in my ears it ricochets off the metal walls. I swing open the bedroom door and the hallway is populated with people. Everyone is screaming and running. I peek my head out the door but I can't see anything the hallway is overrun with terrified passerby's. I grab a man I don't recognize "What's going on?!" I scream at him over the shouting in the hallways. "The scruff can't be stopped." He says and vanishes into mid air. It sends a shiver down my spine. I step out into the hallway and come face to face with my dad, well what's left of my dad. He has transformed into a monster. He is giant, his body is covered is course black fur. His hands have turned into enormous paws with long talons. His head is completely bald there is no hair anywhere above the neck. I stand in my spot shell shocked. It's just the 2 of us in the hallway now. Everyone else has disappeared. "Dad?" I ask but there is no answer. The giant wolf makes his way towards me slowly, trotting along. When he is inches away from me I watch his jaw completely disconnect making a wide dark opening. I can't move, my feet are glued to the metal floor. The wolf jumps up wrapping its jaws around my head until there is nothing but black.
I gasp awake, feeling my body and head. All my limbs are still attached. It was just a bad nightmare. I used to always have nightmares about the scruff but I haven't had one in a few years. I look over and Emma is still sound asleep she hasn't moved an inch. Her long yellow hair is fanned around her as she breathes deeply in sleep. I head to the bathroom and splash some cold water on my face making me feel a bit better. I stick my head under the faucet letting the cold water run into my mouth gulping it down. I look at myself in the mirror. My eyes are bloodshot with dark bags hanging under them. I groan and make my way back to bed. I think it's about 2 AM so I have awhile yet before we have to go for breakfast. I close my eyes and wish myself to sleep. I toss and turn trying to get comfortable and flip my pillow to the cold side before I finally fall back asleep.
