"I’m standing and waiting at your back door. Hurry up, we’re freezing,” I say as I hang up. I pull up the hood on my jacket. Me and my sister, Sammi, and I were invited to stay at Kat’s house for a bit, and then we all went camping in the woods. My friend Leo will also be there. He’s very nice.
“Keira!” Kat says, beaming, “You and Sammi can come inside.” As we entered, I saw Leo already in there. He is scrolling on his phone as he notices us. He waves, and I wave back, trying not to blush. “I have a surprise for everybody!” Kat exclaims and grabs a tray of cupcakes. “I made sure they are gluten-free for you, Leo. Do not worry.” Leo smiles and takes one. We all take one and eat it. The orange frosting is a fun twist for Halloween. Kat was always one for being in season. After an hour of chatting, Leo grabs his car keys and looks at all of us.
“Everyone ready to camp?” Leo asks, holding the car keys. I at once felt sick to my stomach. My brother had always loved camping on Halloween. This would be the first year he could not come with us.
“Are you thinking about Bonnie again?” Sammi asks. She must have seen me looking down. As I nod, she sighs. “We all miss him. He'd want you to be happy.”
“You are right. Thanks.” I sigh and smile. ‘Maybe this won’t be so bad,’ I think and hop in the car.
