The rain, the rabbit, and the board

I found an abandoned house in the woods. Call it a cliché, but it looks like it hasn’t been lived in for a long time. The windows were shattered, there was missing furniture, I even found a letter. I didn’t read it, but I might if we go back. I look around. Keira set up the tents, and Sammi did a decent job making a campfire pit. Leo also put the sleeping bags neatly. I put the firewood in the pit.
“Good job! You found branches in the forest. What did it take so long for? Were you making sure they were the same size?” Leo asked. I look down at the ground, embarrassed. Leo is so annoying. He hates snakes. He only brings it up when I'm around. He doesn’t understand about the firewood, though. I didn’t mean to take so long. I was exploring that house. Keira must have noticed me being shy because they spoke up.
“Leave Kat alone, Leo. She was doing what was asked of her.” Keira says. Leo looks down, embarrassed. ‘I’m lucky to have Keira as a friend.,’ I think. They always stand up for me, and I respect that.
