"Woah- Hey!" yelped Courtney as she swiftly spun her staff in front of her body, deflecting energy bolts raining down on her like fireworks on the 4th of July. Getting caught in a bank heist with four of the Avengers is hardly ideal.
"Tony! What- on Earth- is happening!" She yelled after each word, eyes widening when a hammer suddenly began approaching her face as fast as a Japanese bullet train. Her staff immediately dragged her down to the floor, luckily. Unluckily, the giant green muscular man took this opportunity to lunge at her, she tried to dull out the impact with her staff, only to be slammed against the wall, her vision darkening when she squinted her eyes at a blinding flash of light.
"Ah-"
She jolted up from her.. bed? Courtney frantically glanced around her, bringing her hands up to her face, poking at her cheeks and running her hands through her hair.. she let out a sigh of relief. Looking to her right, she finally saw her saviour.
"Oh, it's you.."
Cosmo flickered in concern, it's funny to see that her mighty weapon has a comparable emotional intelligence as a golden retriever.
"I'm fine, buddy. Just.. weirdest dream yet.." she slowly raised her hand to pet the staff. "How.. did you manage to get out again? I should really get a bigger lock, huh?" she let out a soft chuckle, with a tint of gratitude.
"You should probably head ba.." she trailed off when her staff floated away and towards her bay window. The moonlight reflecting on the messy stack of books and New York Times crossword puzzles.
It began to pulsate again, now looking a bit enthusiastic. "I know what you're hinting at.. but, it's extremely late. We have to get some rest, we're going to war tomorrow-hey!"
The staff speedily flew to her side and threw her blankets to the floor, then began poking her back, slightly nudging her off her bed.
"Cosmo, no. No-" it was as if she's scolding a deaf child. "Why today, hm?"
It then floats away slightly, pointing at her and then proceeds to crash into the walls and dramatically fall.
"Hey! I am not that rusty." she gave it a subtle glare while reaching down to pull up her blanket.
Cosmo suddenly starts to charge up, as if, attempting to shoot a beam at her, causing her to quickly drop her blanket again and raise her arms up. "Okay, okay.. we'll just head out to patrol. Happy?"
The staff then pauses and shakes up and down, as if it's nodding in satisfaction. She sighs in annoyance, as she tiredly got on to her feet and walked over to the bay window. The weapon flew into her hand, emitting a soft glow as lights travelled along her body in a swift motion, and in a second, her nightwear was replaced by her signature star-spangled suit.
The blonde slowly pushed over her window as the fresh night air blew past her, she carefully climbed on to the windowsill, perching about twenty feet off the ground. She took a deep breath.. one, two.. three! She pushed herself like how a swimmer lunges off the deep swimming pool walls, like a bird taking flight..
Before it starts to plummet.
Courtney's eyes widened, but before she could manage to open her mouth and scream, her staff took initiative to take the wheel, and blasted them upwards again.
"Phew.. okay.. cool, cool, cool.. cool.." she let out a nervous chuckle as she tried to regain her balance again. "Maybe I'm just a tad bit rusty.." she cracked her neck to the side as she sat sideways on her left. Her hair furiously blowing against the wind, and she felt this.. sort of high.. It's been quite a while since she felt this high..
